I completely understand the reading slump! I’ve been the same lately. I’m glad you read some great books though. The Tempest of Tea has been on my TBR for a while, so I will definitely be picking up a copy now after watching this! 🙌🏾 I hoping May is much better for you 🥰

Thanks lovely; I've already read more books in May compared to March and April combined (happy days!). That's awesome that I've managed to influence another fantasy onto your TBR :) Have you read The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue? It's a very subtle fantasy book (and one of my favourites). Hope that you're well and reading all the good books :) x

I’ll be honest whenever I’m in a reading slump I usually go back to my comfort books that I know I love! My favourite book that I very much recommend is The Prince of Mist by Carlos Ruiz Zafón! Mystery thriller vibes but a super quick read and the writing is amazing 😃

This is good advice; I’m not a huge re-reader but I LOVE the Hunger Games books. They take me back 🥰 I’ve not heard of The Prince of Mist; will have to take a look! Thanks Millie. Have a great day 😊

I’m so glad you ended up liking A Feather so Black! It was a slow start for sure, and a book that needed reading slowly to really devour it! I ended up getting completely sucked in and gave it a five star! Unpopular opinion I know, but I did not enjoy A Tempest of Tea, I just can’t get past that kind of writing style and I have no idea what was going on! I’m reading To Gaze Upon Wicked Gods now. I wanted to DNF after 30 pages, but glad I stuck with is as I’m 150ish pages in now and really enjoying it! I always like short, easy books for reading slumps! Usually romance!! Bridgerton is very good if that’s your thing! Xx

I did! I think it's because I like a plot driven narrative, so it was too slow for me. To Gaze Upon Wicked Gods sounds great! I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying it :) I actually haven't read the Bridgerton books, but I love the Netflix series, so I would probably enjoy them; thanks for the recommendation :) Hope you're well Linz! x

I’m so glad you enjoyed A Tempest of Tea! It was one of my most anticipated reads for me this year but it unfortunately just missed all my expectations, I’m hoping one day I will pick it up again and it will be “right” for me on a re-read, but I sadly only gave it 2 stars and it threatened to put me in a slump. 😢 I’m currently reading Elsie Silver’s Chestnut Springs series between other books as a low stakes, low brain power refresher. They rejuvenate me so I can spring back into another book! Also on the subject of horror as a genre, I’m a MASSIVE horror movie wimp but absolutely adore horror books?? I definitely feel like you can fear/dislike a genre in one format but appreciate it in another. I’m going to add The Star and The Strange Moon to my list, it sounds right up my street!

Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear that A Tempest of Tea was a flop for you :( ... I've heard a lot of people saying that it wasn't for them, so you're definitely not on your own. (Isn't it weird that reading is SO subjective!?). The Chesnut Springs do sound like a great 'low brain power' series. I'm enjoying the Spy X Family manga for the same reason; it's good to have a fun and easy read. That's so interesting that you like horror in a book format, but not others. Let me know what you think if you read The Star and The Strange Moon :) Have a great day!

I managed to order A Tempest of Tea form Fairy Loot recently. It didn't arrive yet (it's a re-sell), but it was quite cheap. I was surprised to see that there is so many offers with it and that they have a normal prize. Looks like people weren't too interested in it? A Feather so Black sounds really interesting. I may order it in a normal edition soon.

Sorry to hear you've been in a reading slump, I hope May is a better month for you! My usual recommendation for getting out of a reading slump is to try a different genre (thrillers and romance usually help me 😄)

Hi Michelle, Ugh!! Reading slumps!!! I never use to have any issues with my reading until last year when all kinds of sh*t and stresses introduced me to the concept. Yipee!! But I decided not to fret about it and just let things go as they will. I don't do TBR lists because I feel that just adds pressure on me to read which conversely then makes me not want to read even more. So, you want to know of my slump destroying books? Well, this year I read Jennie Godfrey's The List of Suspicious Things and (along with a major portion of the UK book readers online) I adored it!!! Last year I was introduced to a Canadian author named Lesley Crewe who writes slice of life books with humour, heart ache and wonderful, colourful characters. I have only read two of her books (Recipe for a Good Life ... and ... The Spoon Stealer) but I plan to read more of her stuff and I'd say she'd be a slump breaker. I just finished reading Kristin Hannah's latest book called The Women which is about a young woman who volunteers to go to Vietnam as a nurse during the Vietnam war. First time that I've read anything about the Vietnam War but I adore Kristin Hannah's books and I tore through this one!!! Read it in two days!!! Could not put it down!! Nora Roberts is also an author that I go to for a quick and enjoyable read. I just read the one big book that she usually releases around this time every year rather then her various series which can sometimes get formulaic and annoying to me. It's easy to loose yourself in her books. Jodi Taylor's Chronicles of St Marys books are so much fun, easy reads and yet full of heart and adventure and ... well, wackiness!! Of course these are books that appeal to my personal taste in reading so may or may not be the same for you Michelle but still they are my go to's when I need some reading encouragement. I'm so glad to hear that you're back into the swing of things and feeling better. ❤

Hi Judy... gosh the slump is definitely to do with life in general (work stress, relationship stress, bereavements, health issues) and not the books themselves. Poor books! It's interesting that you mention Nora Roberts as she is my mum's favourite author! Mum doesn't usually keep a hold of books (reads and then donates to the charity shop), but she has kept every single Nora Roberts book... so I have access to all of them if I want to give them a read :) .... you have SO many favourites there! And The Women really does sound SO good! (I can't remember if I got it in a Book of the Month box... but NEED to open all of this book post to see if I did or not). I'll definitely get there, life is always full of ups and downs, and I happily live the 'downs' as much as the 'ups'. Thanks for the support Judy. Hope you're well, having a great day, and that everything is still going well with the move x

@@MichelleReadsandVlogs Yes. Because you like SF and I find this anime has more of grounded and believable story line even with them getting in trouble in so many ways. . . . 🤔Please give manga BLAME! by Nihei vol 1 a try- for me a masterpiece! If you read horror than manhua The Horizon by JH [ finished in 3 volumen]. Try anime Kino's Journey as it is like anthology with one main character...and a good exploration of humanity.
