After I hung my Andersen 3000 retractable door, when it came to attaching the screen and venting window the 2 were wedged so tight I had to remove the screen to separate, in the process one of the plastic pieces broke and there was no tension. I'm getting a replacement. However should I expect the ventilating window to be able to hold in a position other then at the bottom of the door when attempting to attach it to the screen? On some videos it appears that the venting window has the ability to gently, hold in place. Confused?

The window wont hold on a 3000...you need to either have someone hold it up or carefully hold it like I do in the video...I also recommend using a rivet gun to re establish the bond ..similar to the one that gets drilled out in the video...I dont feel confident in having the handle hold all that tension

You're supposed to raise the bottom window before installing these junk screens. All the weight of the storm glass is held by that screen. On my replacement, it was a plastic stick that was taped to the fixed bottom glass then held the upper glass about four inches from the top. This is probably your problem.

I will never, never buy another one of these anderson retractable screen doors. The spring roller has the vinyl screen held in place simply by double sided sticky tape. When you fully open the window, there's very little left to hold that screen to the roller. I used mine maybe three times, left it down overnight and it was off the roller. If they had put a kerf or slot in the roller so that the screen could go in that and THEN put tape on it, it would hold much better. DO NOT FULLY LOWER THIS WINOW or you risk the screen coming out. It's not worth the effort to replace it. This is a manufacturer's defect of design. That whole plate glass is held up by that screen. If it comes loose while the glass is up, it's likely to break. Don't buy the anderson doors. They say 45 minutes install but it's really like a weekend and 45 minutes.
@nelsongonzalez7207
2 жыл бұрын
I'd be curious to see what exactly is happening...in general, the door itself or any over the 3000 or better series is indeed about a 45 min install for the average person. I install those doors start to finish in about 15 min. I have installed thousands of them and haven't ran into any big issues as stated. From time to time, the roller screen will have problems but in less than 5% of all installs. With regards to the sticky tape, I'm not quite following where this is on the door..send me some pictures of your issue. I just installed a few these week with no issues.
@southernguy35
2 жыл бұрын
@@nelsongonzalez7207 , you have an email I can send you pictures to show you what I'm talking about. As far as install, I found the instructions a little difficult to follow and it took me longer than expected to install. I think there was some drilling too and an odd sized bit that I had to go out and buy. On that spindle/rod, it's steel that's spring loaded. There's thin tape that must be double-sided sticky tape that's about an inch thick. It runs the length of the spindle/rod. The screen is attached to that and wound around it. This also supports the glass storm frame window. When the glass is mostly or fully lowered, the screen is unwound from this spindle. When it's unwound like this, there isn't much pressure left to help hold it on. The tape has a harder time to hold on without the screen wrapped around it. This causes it to fail and come loose from the top of the door, directly from the spindle. I was shipped a replacement and found that the vertical guides are flexible enough to accept the replacement spindle and ends. The replacement kit has a support that you're supposed to tape to the bottom pane to hold the moveable one up. A longer stick would be better as this one allows for a three or four inch gap and the screen has to be pulled down. It's then possible to snap it on and screw the center latch on. The problem remains that if the window is lowered, the screen and tape can come loose. For the cost of the door, the weakness of the screen, the cost and trouble to replace the screen, it's just not worth it. If this screen fails and it will, I think I'll not try to replace it again.

Visually, the video is OK although it does not follow the included instruction sheet with the replacement screen. I tried replacing the screen following the instructions but found it did not fit properly / as expected. This video shows the basics but would have been immeasurably improved with more verbal description as to what was going on. What we have is a guy working at the job but not giving much in the way of verbal "play by play". Unless I simply had a defective replacement part initially, this installation is not as simple as is displayed. Some description on what to do under the adverse conditions I experienced would have been helpful.
