Andre Ward is a legend for this fight Smith was overweight during weigh-in so had to pay a quarter of his pay check to Ward. But Ward being the decent man he was, drastically reduced the fine for him to make sure he took the bulk of his pay check home. Such a top man Andre Ward is!

jesus garcia Hmm, but the thing is, he frustrates his opponents to the point in which Ward is actually allowed to be offensive, similar to Rigondeaux, weirdly enough. He utilises his defence of course, and he isn't the most offensive of fighters, but compared to Mayweather, I think he is. Now, I sitll think Mayweather is the better pure boxer, regardless. It just seems that there's no one on Ward's level in his division.

Kovalev won't even touch Ward. As Lewis said about May Pac, '' you can't hit what you can't catch.'' Kovalev couldn't even take down a 49 year old Bhop, and Bhop came from 160. Ward is a natural 168-175 contender with that weight in the Olympics via Gold. Ward will school Kovalev. The same way Mayweather schooled Maidana...even though Maidana went crazy and got a couple nice shots. I see the exact same thing playing out. Ward is no joke. Wait until he sets into 175 perfectly and rehydrates like a pimp.

Damian Fernandez give it time bruv. the context of any beef regarding Ward or that kid GGG, is the forces have been trying to draw some picture that Ward ain't shit, yet HE's the one already moving up. Just like Danny Garcia did even far more pathetic tune up fight with 75 ranked Rod Salka to transition onto 147. He then fought Lamont Peterson before fully fledging to 147. He fought an older Paulie Malignaggi, but still, Garcia made an effort to move up for the fact that nobody at 140 was ideal. Now look at GGG? Look at Ward. Apples to Oranges. Paul Smith is a B level fighter just like most of GGG's opponents. Geale is the only dude on his resume.

Virgil Hunter who is my Favorite Trainer teaches how to hit and not be hit has trained Ward since he was a little kid, Ward is one of those Dudes that literally tries to master every skill needed to defeat his opponent. Have you seen how big and cut Andre Ward is now!? Good fight with a seasoned veteran, just a tune up fight for Ward after a long-ish layoff, nothing out of the ordinary for any boxer. His next fight is against a up and coming amateur gold medalist who is undefeated in Sullivan Barrera. For those complaining about catch weights, he's moving up, slow but surely, this was what you call ''smart'' in boxing. Putting your pride aside and taking the big fights when your ready, he will be eventually facing Kovalev at the full 175. Why are there so many complaints, boxing is awesome, these fighters are awesome, it's going to be a good fight, appreciate the craft and don't be so ungrateful.

I can't speak much for Kovalev besides he has alot of power in his punches and cuts off the ring well along with making it look easy against every opponent he's been in there with but Ward is an Olympian. In other words he's been competing at a high level his entire life to get where he has gotten in the sport. Superior skill and timing can neutralize power and speed. It is the only boxing fight I look forward to after Canelo v Cotto. Other than that I've moved on from boxing for the lack of fights that should happen that never do. (i.e. Skilled fighters fighting tomato cans in their respective promotions with no intent to fight the best out there regardless of promotion.) MMA is where it's at in my opinion and though sometimes grappling is not action packed it's interesting to me just as much as watching Mayweather neutralizing any opponent in his wake with his defensive shell.

You can tell from the people that knows boxing and from those who don't , some of yall just hating on the fact that ward is better than yall favorite boxer , yall quick to say kovalev going to KO ward but he couldn't KO a 49 year old Bernard Hopkins so clearly its a high chance the fight going to 12rounds and if it does ward have a 70% chance of winning

Andre Lewis Hop didn't have the defense or jab of ward and Hop was old. He only beat Hop up late inro the match but Hop didn't go down regardless. It was only the last 30 seconds that was actually dangerous and the fight should've been called there. BHop had no more gas

***** yes it was from dan Rafael but dan Rafael most of the time is right and if you ever watch ward's interviews he confronted ggg's promotor and told him stop lying to the fans about him being scared and loeffler blamed it on ggg's trainer I know for a fact ward isn't scared of ggg shit if anything ggg is scared cause he was willing to fight froch and chavez jr at 168 but when it comes to ward he wants him at 164 lol

***** Dan Rafael, King Fight Freak (12:31 PM) I'd be thrilled with either. The Ward camp told me today their preference is to make GGG for this fall and then go after Kovalev, which makes sense. Ward isn't going to go to light heavyweight and then come back down to face GGG. So face GGG now at whatever weight they can agree on and then, if all goes well, move to 175. Ward can go from an afterthought having fought one nothing fight in 19 months to a huge deal quickly if he were to face GGG and Kovalev in a row and win both.

Disgusting of smith coming in such bad shape. Was ideal time to fight ward. Not saying he would win but Could have made it interesting at least and got himself more recognition. Good of ward to give him money back from fine

it will be interesting who wins the war of jabs, ward or kovalev. if ward leaves that jab floating out there like this he will wear straight rights all night.

Alex Reeves I doubt it because ward is a big Floyd fan. He probably did it here because it was over from round 1. his jab neutralized Smith completely

I just don't see how he keeps Kovalev off of him. Kovalev's jab takes it out of you. He hurts fighters with better chins then Ward with it. And those straight punches will land.

Bee Stunna When it comes to boxing don't look at someone's power. These guys have good chins and ward's jab isn't meant to knock out people. It establishes range, sets up combinations, and keeps your opponent on the back foot. His jab was excellent and pretty much any boxer would say it is extremely good. you are also making the assumption that Ward's defense isn't sound which it almost is. (This fight was over in round 1 and Ward knew it so don't judge by this fight only) Ward is a boxer not a slugger like a lot of othee fighters are. If you want ro see what a boxee can do look at Maywheather. People don't like him, but he is excellence in all aspects of boxing and has a good chin tested and proven. You'll still see many people say he will get knocked out by this and that dispite him being the best technical boxer in this era and constantly winning against low and high end opponents. All because he plays smart and not like a slugger.

oldschool Jab is excellent so is his footwork when applying pressure. Needs to work on being defensively responsible, but it could be because he was destroying this guy.

3 year old comment yes. But that fight was at 175 buddy, people watch these weight classes for ferocity and power aswell as skill. You just won't get that from any Mayweather.

if ggg fights ward prepare for a ward merathon he's a technical boxer (a great one)and ggg is technical but chases and cuts the ring off on you sort of like chavez did.Ggg has a chin so he'd prob take wards shots even if hes bigger than ggg.It would be a good fight but I think ggg would win in a very competitive fight.
@thelaw8042

Manny Suarez I disagree. GGG hasn't fought someone with Ward's level of jab and he is a counter puncher in particular the jab. If GGG is put on the backfoot the fight will be Ward's. GGG is defensively sound though just like ward.
