It was my pleasure to have seen both these great artists many times in my early opera going years…..no one will ever replace them. Singing from deep within the heart is a lost art…..

Thank you for sharing. Though the photo was taken in Philadelphia, at the December 1966 concert, the recording is from the New York, Philharmonic Hall concert (February 27) with Alfredo Antonini conducting. Earlier, Jürgen Helgert shared two more excerpts from this concert, but he has since deleted those videos. I, too, have only this much unfortunately, from the Legendary Recordings LP you mentioned (Franco Corelli Sings Duets With His Favorite Leading Ladies).

Neither singer is fond of the conductors slow tempi and keep trying to get him going. 1965/1967 was Albanese's last Met season, when she alternated Boheme, Butterfly and Manon Lescaut. The latter 2 roles are BIG stuff for someone who had been at the Met for 26 years. She would have been 56 and a half here - no great age per se, but as a lyric soprano who sang the Puccini canon, with their corresponding thick orchestrations, she put her voice to hard use. She certainly sounds better here than at the Farewell to the Old Met. Emotion must have played a part there, which is understandable. Corelli of course sounds (and looked) like god's little brother. . . .
