It's the variety of his dotting; under-dotting, over-dotting, every-which-way dotting that keeps this so fresh, natural and beautiful. Segovia really had a thorough understanding of techniques that smoothed out his renditions - this, in particular (the dotting) is so elegant and majestic. His life-long dedication was what the guitar world needed and got from dear Andres Segovia !

As the “Grandfather” of the modern classical guitar, many grandfathers pale in comparison to subsequent generations. Segovia is an exception. He would be (still is) on top of the heap. It would hard to imagine how great these pieces would like if he had the benefit of modern technology (recording equipment, strings etc). The guitar simply sings in this video. A fine example of his greatness.

Hello, from 8 years into the future. Here's what Google's Bard said to my query, which is something I've always wondered: What was the last song Andres Segovia played on his guitar View other drafts The last song Andrés Segovia played on his guitar was the traditional Catalan lullaby, El Noy de la Mare (The Song of the Mother). He played it at a concert in Miami on May 20, 1987, just a few weeks before his death.

The song is Catalan. Musicians from Siberia, Spain or New Zealand can cover it (welcome, well done), but what is relevant is that the song is Catalan. On the other hand, I believe that it cannot be said that someone is Spaniard, when Spanish nationality is imposed on Catalans, Basque, Galicians and Canarians by obligation, by brute force and many and several methods of coercive and bureaucratic power of an expansionist, violent, colonial empire like the Spanish. It would be necessary to ask Miquel Llobet (in a context of real full personal freedom, without spanish pressure or intimidation), if he felt Spaniard or not, but in any case, it cannot be said that he was Spaniard when he is already deceased and cannot answer. What is certain is that he was Catalan, since the citizens of Catalonia, both those who feel Spaniards and those who do not, all consider themselves Catalan.

The author of the song is not Miquel Llobet. It is a Catalan lullaby and Christmas carol long before Miquel Llobet, whose authorship is unknown. Please, consult the entry: "El noi de la mare" which is the title of the song, in the Wikipedia in Catalan, Spanish or French, and there you will find this information. On this particular article, the English Wikipedia, as of December 2022, gives some inaccurate information.
