Barney Fife was actually on a single episode of the Joey Bishop Show; Episode is called Joey's Hideaway Cabin (1964) and it's all but impossible to find. Been searching for 10+ years.

@@garymcaleer6112 WRONG! #1 Just anybody doesn't go to heaven (I have no clue if Andy Griffith or Bob Hope were Christians or not. But even if they DID make it to heaven, something tells me they won't be making anyone laugh) #2, and most important. The dead who die are NOT in their grave (I know this to be a fact. And you would also if you knew the Word). The very SECOND a Christians dies, they go to be with God (A Christian goes to be with God, so I can only assume that the non Christian goes to hell)

Just remembered something. One of Bob's writers met one of Andy's creative control guys. Larry Gelbart met Gene Reynolds and they went on to shape a TV sitcom called MASH. A couple of episodes were even directed by Bob's announcer Hy Averback who also announced for MASH as well!B.W.

Fun! Strange to think that they made a joke involving JFK. Four weeks later to the day after this show aired, JFK was assassinated in Texas. Looking back, they had no idea.

This was from Bob's second NBC Chrysler special in the 1963-'64 season. And the amazing thing about them, was that he was also appearing weekly as host of "BOB HOPE PRESENTS THE CHRYSLER THEATER"- which was on film, in color. Yet, his own variety specials WEREN'T telecast in color until December 1965! That's Peter Leeds, a regular Hope "stooge", as the guy seated on the left in the cab...

* Bob Hope often failed in his sketches to allow guests to reach their full comedic potential. When Don Rickles did a silly sketch with Bob I so wanted Don to step out of character and call Hope a has-been hockey puck but alas Don apparently had too much respect for Hope to do that even if it would've saved the sketch. ☺

I really liked this but I always get a lump in my throat when I see things from the fall of 1963 because I know that something shocking, sad and tragic is going to happen to our country on November 22, 1963.

Yeah, did you know that Andy Griffith went crazy on the set when JFK was killed? He was banging around, slamming filing cabinets, etc. Don Knotts knew how upset he was and he just put his arm around Griffith and walked him away

Because this wasn't a part of his show this is a part of Bob Hope's 1963 show. Might be able to find that if you look up the old Bob Hope specials of the sixties on DVD.

And the cab driver was character actor Charles Smith who played in many films starting in the late 1930's. He played in the Henry Aldrich series as Henry's friend, Dizzy Smith; needed "H2o" for his car while giving James Cagney Jive-talk lessons in "Yankee Doodle Dandy"; invited for Christmas dinner by Frank Morgan at the end of "The Shop Around the Corner"; along with countless other movies and television appearences.

Everybody who talks about Cosmo Kramer hired as one of Murphy Brown's secretaries should realize the value of this network crossover as well. Bob Hope associated with NBC for decades plays host to CBS icon Andy Griffith as Sheriff Andy Taylor in Mayberry no less on a rival network for Andy! An incredible moment all the way around.B.W.

Andy himself was the one who decided to end the show. He didn't want it to drag on and also wanted to go out in top - it was featured in the Top 10 in Nielsen ratings for each of its nine seasons (1960-68).

years ago i was doing a show in palm springs and the band went to tony romas for dinner before the gig....bob hope comes walking out, and the trombone player said"hey, bob hope"......Bob Hope replied " Fuck Off kid!" the gig was at the Bob Hope theater.

as much as I like Bob Hope and Andy as much as I like Bob Hope and Andy Griffith, this particular sketch really didn't leave me laughing. one interesting cultural note, in those days there were a lot of westerns and it was funny for people to be shooting each other all the time, but after the Kennedy assassination a month later you never saw this kind of Comedy anymore of people shooting each other.
