Unfortunately many big name "grace" preachers and teachers such as Jack Hibbs and Andrew Farley incorporate this "invite Jesus into your heart" to be saved which is both confusing, and more importantly, not Biblically accurate....Great teaching here Andy!

Thanks Andy. I have grown weary of these salvation pop slogans like "ask Jesus into your heart" People will recollect when they were saved and just say like, "I invited Jesus into my heart" or something similar, like that is it. Now if you ask further they may say 'Oh, I believe that Christ died to save me", but it's almost like this is not at the forefront. Instead you may hear I walked the aisle, said a prayer, verbally confessed Christ, and so on. I am in a grace only Bible church, according to their faith statement, but our pastor has said, more than once, that when he was saved he "invited Christ into his heart. For the record when I became saved I simply believed what Christ did on the paying for my sins and to save me. Apparently, this "asking Jesus into my heart" or life is pretty common. Have people not been taught that they don't really have to do anything to be saved, only accept by faith Christ's finished work on the cross as I did to be saved.

Excellent refutation of misconceptions concerning receipt of salvation that are taken for granted and largely unquestioned practices that are so widespread in evangelicalism. Bottom line is that any Scriptural support for them is taken out of context and relate to fellowship for the already saved not salvation for the lost as Pastor Andy aptly highlights.

One could make the point that a person is asking Jesus 'in to your heart' because a person 'believes' Him for salvation.

Have a look at the seven churches of Asia. The warnings suggest that not everyone in those churches are saved or are in peril regarding salvation due to very serious sin, sin that leads to death - eternal separation from The Lord.
