Great video. Thanks for sharing. Instead of soldering to the back of the board, I simply pushed my orange wire up into the black LCD connector port and when I secured the connector back to the board, it made solid connection to with then pin. Super easy solution and works great.

So simple but so useful, thanks for the top tip. I cut the ribbon cable wire to add a connector but there was no continuity to the board for some reason. Doing this got it working 100%.

I was now debating with myself to get a BLtouch, if the mess with the mainboard would be worth it... especially the hassle with the LCD & J3 (I use a full graphics display -> it uses both ports) but your video helped me a great deal :D ... smart move, soldering a pin to the back of the mainboard :D

Thanks for the easy-to-understand video! I have a couple of questions. Do I just need to wire up the 3dtouch as you describe, and use the configuration.h you provided, along with the latest Marlin? I set up a 3dtouch on my D-bot a while back, and the bltouch provisions in Marlin at that time did not work - I had to do a bit of a workaround. Does the newer version of Marlin fix that? Looking forward to getting ABL running on the A8, since I've basically had to re-level the bed before each print.

You will need to configure Marlin to use the bltouch. The configuration.h I provided works for me.

Great video. How to have you done the extension cable? What type of wires and connectors.
@MrDabrudda

I bought 3 pin JST connectors form ebay. I used servo extension wires and cut the end off and crimped the JST pin connectors on to the wires.

can you solder 2 wires from the j3 and lcd so you keep connected the lcd?
@MrDuane-lr8dm

I soldered it too, but instead of attaching just the servo pin connector to the board for the connection, I soldered the pin and clamped some wire onto it and put another servo pin connector at the other end of the wire. So if I ever need to disconnect the pin I can just unplug the wire. This way there's never any stress on the solder.

Is this more expensive BLtouch worth it compared to the cheaper 3D touch? Is it hard to make the software run correctly?
@MrDabrudda
6 жыл бұрын
I only have the cloned BLTouch so can't really say if it is worth buying. I had trouble with the BLTouch sensor crashing the firmware every so often. When I upgraded to the BLV Mod I added a capacitive sensor instead of the BLTouch.

why is no one in these videos simply putting a single servo connector on that pin? I have 2 display ports just like all the res of them. .....One can be used as display any the other for a single connector for the sensor.....always someone soldering or making a breakout for it.

Why should you connect both GND pins? The left pin of the Z-endswitch is also ground.
@MrDabrudda
6 жыл бұрын
Separate circuits. One ground goes to the sensor and the other ground goes to the servo which raises and lowers the probe.

I found continuity between the two groundwires. They must be connected somewhere inside the probe. Guess i"ll just solder a wire between the two groundpins to be sure.

The link is in the description but the older Configuration.h is not compatible with Marlin 1.1.8 and I had to start from the default ANET A8 config files.

You can download the configuration.h file from the Marlin Firmware Github page then customize the settings to calibrate your ANET A8. The configuration.h I had is an old file and won't work with the latest version of Marlin.
