*Why Angelina always performs barefoot* At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. PLEASE PURCHASE Angelina’s book from her merchandise store on her official website, angelinajordanofficial

Angelina is absolutely influenced by Ella. If you listen to her Summertime performance from Norway Got Talent in 2014 you will hear both Ella and even some Louis Armstrong. Other artists that have influenced Angelina is Billy Holiday, Etta James, Amy Winehouse, Elvis and many others. Lately she has done some fantastic Adele covers, Queen covers.

Her main musical influence is Billie Holiday. She once said if there were no Billie Holiday, there would be no Angelina Jordan. However, she has also said that other singers, such as Dinah Washington, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, and Etta James were her early influences. More recent singers such as Whitney Houston, Norah Jones, and Adele are influences as well.

Directed by Mery Zamani. That is Angelina's grandmother who is a prodigy in her own right as an Iranian artist and poet. I believe it was her jazz records that Angelina was listening to early on (if wrong I will be corrected .. the Angels take no prisoners). Mery did the artwork for Angelina's book mentioned below.

Thanks for this reaction and noted how u picked up on Angie's use of vibrato. She has been referred to as vibrato killer by some vocal coaches. She is so tasteful in the use of it and other vocal registers as u mentioned previously, making such silky smooth tones and textures. Whereas listening to mainstream pop artists in particular, many tend to be modal, on or off and nowhere as delicate as the control Angie has.

Hi Mr. J, yes she does sound a little like Ella Fitzgerald on this song. As you here more of her songs through the ages of 7-12, on different performances you will "hear" elements of Billie Holiday, Amy Winehouse, Lana Del Rey, Dinah Washington, Shirley Bassey, Adele, Etta James, Norah Jones and others. After age 12, what you are hearing is more the maturing voice and developing style of Angelina, until you reach the unique and distinctive artist she has become today. This is going to be a big year for AJ. Her first "promoted" single with Republic Records will be released in April, and the album will follow in the autumn.

You can hear elements of a child's voice in Angelina's younger performances like this one, but the combination of that child's voice with her deep rich tone along with her genius level of understanding music and emotion, provides a truly unique voice. Angels, please take 10 to 15 minutes of your busy day to help KZitem recommend Angelina to millions more people. It's Easy and FREE. Sir, most of us call her AJ and it is not meant disrespectful, Mery Zamany is her maternal grandmother from Iran, painter and poetress herself, also best friend and mentor of AJ. She was 11 years old, here. Funfact, a certain Mr. Quincey Jones saw her sing this song (he arranged it for Mr. Sinatra) and invited her to his 85th birthday to London the next year. At his birthday party many VERY influential people met AJ, and since then she is know and feared to the music industry. FEAR??? Why yes, no more crappy songs about sex, drugs, greed and money from so called singers, who need computers to sing. AJ is very well know to the artists in the US. If you want to succeed, try to be employed be Miss Angelina Jordan (she has totaly free hand with RepublicRecords). As far as I know, already, a few artists, who worked for her, stand a much better chance to be employed by others, when known they worked for AJ. "Miss Jordan employs only the Best" Be safe and sound, sir. Elmar from Germany.

You’re absolutely right her influences were Billie Holiday Ella Fitzgerald. She grew up with old time jazz. The reason the barefoot, princess sings barefoot is a heartfelt story on it’s own. She is actually the youngest published author in Norway she wrote a book on why she sings barefoot. It’s actually a sad story, but shows you absolutely how big hearted the barefoot princesses. English is not her first language, but she speaks like four languages plays like four or five instruments. Even at that young age she was in charge of doing her own arrangements. She is absolutely a musical genius and a child prodigy. I believe deep down in my heart she is absolutely an angel sent from heaven.

- The Barefoot Princess - (From her book, television and radio interviews, and podcasts made between 2014-2015. Includes excerpts from her diary made that day in 2012.) Why does Angelina sing barefooted? Angelina Jordan is known as "The Barefoot Princess" or "The Barefoot Princess of Jazz," amongst many other names. She always performs barefooted, whether in front of a live audience or during a studio performance. The story is that while living in the Middle East, at 6 years old, Angelina came across an orphaned girl, of her own age, sitting in the street, weighing people on a bathroom scale to earn money. Angelina said to herself, "I would like to share her life for one second to know what it is like to sit alone, wet, and damp, and barefoot in a corner of the street." Angelina could see the girl's bare feet were scarred and that it was cold outside, so she offered her own shoes to the girl. Little Angelina says that she really loved her shoes, as they were very nice and she knew she would miss them. But she saw the other little girl’s need for them, which outweighed her own desire to keep them. So she insisted the little girl take them. Angelina called her Princess, even though the girl said she didn't live in a castle, but the ruins of a building next to where she sat. After sharing their hopes and dreams, the little girl said of Angelina's wish to sing for the world, "You will become the one you dream of and when your dreams come true, you have to remember the poor children without shoes; and I will pray for you Angelina.” Later that day, 6 y/o Angelina wrote in her diary, "The world is very strange. Right then and there, I felt as if a door in my heart opened up, and it was filled with lots of lights. It was as if there was, from Earth to Heaven, a staircase. I climbed the stairs. To be able to do something for another human - it was such a big thing…hard to describe really.” From that point on, Angelina takes off her shoes, in honor of ‘Princess’ and all the other less fortunate children of the world, who are orphaned, hungry, or in want of even basic clothing. In 2015, at the age of 9, Angelina wrote a book about the encounter, as everyone continued to ask why she sang barefoot. Her grandmother, Mery Zamani, created the artwork for the book. So at 9, Angelina Jordan became the youngest published author in Norway. Angelina has performed alongside many other artists, raising attention and helping to raise over 21 million euros and millions of dollars for children in need.

You are right on about her voice sometimes sounding like certain vocal masters such as Fitzgerald, Holiday, Winehouse, etc., as she basically had these singers as instructors through listening on you tube and old vinyl since she was a toddler. She has used these influences to develop her unique voice, her sense of musicality, and her ability to sing in any style or genre there is. Of course, massive, God-given talent was also required. He just heaped it on. As for the bare feet? When she was 6 years old, she met a poor child while visiting in the middle east who about her age who was a street vendor. The girl had no shoes, so Angelina gave the girl her shoes and later wrote a book on the experience and is the youngest published author in Norway. Shortly after, she made a vow at to always perform barefoot as a tribute to that girl and children all over the world who are poor and in need. This girl is special, and I believe heaven sent!

For what it's worth I've never referred to Angelina as AJ. It always seemed odd to me. I feel that the first time you introduce the video you should use her full name of "Angelina Jordan" since there will be viewers that have never heard of her before. After that, Angelina, her, AJ, Angie, etc are all fine. Professionally, Angelina does not use her last name. This is her choice so it should be respected. A few "fans" insist on including "Astar" and shouldn't. We don't call Cher by her legal name of Cherilyn Sarkisian. Nor do we call Frank Sinatra by his name of Francis. I enjoy your reactions.

AJ" doesn't sound very nice. Her official stage name is "Angelina Jordan". That actually came about through an accident. Both are her first names. Angelina Jordan's last name is, aptly enough, Astar. In her (very well worth seeing) first appearance on Norway's got Talent, she gave her name as "Angelina Jordan". The judges thought Jordan was the surname and called her Angelina. Before that, friends and family called her "Jordan". It was then that things changed.

A barefoot princess with a hypnotic voice. As usual, a vocal masterpiece Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman. Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on KZitem. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage. Why Angelina always performs barefoot At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. PLEASE PURCHASE Angelina’s book from her merchandise store on her official website, angelinajordanofficial Angelina, at age 6 and 7, did record a few songs in a recording studio at her school, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 7 year old. At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience. In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them. In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists. When asked what she would like to do with the prize money she won (500,000 kroner or about $80,000), Angelina replied, “I want to give it to the poor children”. Angelina had become a star in her native Norway and her videos on KZitem went viral. She gave a few concerts during the summer of 2014 while 8 years old. In December 2014, Angelina realized a life-long desire to sing at the Save the Children's Peace Prize Celebration which is part of the Noble Peace Prize celebration. Angelina’s family took her to United States, Brazil, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Russia, South Korea, Singapore among other corners of Earth, to perform for heads of state and to help raise money for charity. All before Angelina turned 14. At age 9, Angelina recorded a music video covering the 1956 Jay Hawkin’s classic, “I Put a Spell On You”. The video begins by showing Angelina writing her “wishes” for how she wants to perform the song. Angelina has always created her own arrangements for her cover songs. At age 10 and just a week before her 11th birthday, Angelina recorded a demo of “I’m Still Holding Out for You”. Her family never pursued having that recording officially released but someone leaked it on a KZitem video. Thankfully, everyone involved with that song is now ok with the leaked version. Many angels (fans) believe this is one of Angelina’s best performances. When Angelina was 11, she performed a number of concerts in Norway with a jazz/rock band. Those concerts included up to 14 songs, each remarkably performed. Angelina seems to be at her best when on stage, never nervous, only 100% confident. Also at age 11, Angelina recorded her “It’s Magic” album which has, at times, been in the top 10 best selling jazz albums. On June 27, 2018, at age 12, Jordan performed Frank Sinatra “Fly Me to the Moon” for Quincy Jones in The O2 Arena in London. She has said that was the high point of her young career which was already in it’s 6th year. During 2018, Angelina lost her paternal grandfather, her friend Avicii and one of her idols, Aretha Franklin. She did a moving tribute for each. In 2019, Angelina accepted an invitation to compete in the 2nd season of America’s Got Talent (AGT), The Champions. She had, since age 3, wanted to perform for Simon Cowell and she earned his praise with her genius arrangement of “Bohemian Rhapsody”. The surviving members of Queen loved it so much they put a link to it on their Twitter. Angelina was eliminated after covering Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”. Angelina’s family refused to sign any agreement with AGT. Angelina, before age 14, had covered more than 130 songs from 80 different artists, spanning at least 8 genres, all of which are available on KZitem. Angelina has always made changes to each song she covers and often her version is preferred over the original. On KZitem, search on The Complete Works of Angelina Jordan as Rusty Shackleford has put all songs in one file and has a complete playlist in the description of that video. The pandemic hit shortly after her performances on AGT and likely caused a change of plans by her family, most notably her Uncle Michael who is her manager. Her family agreed to a contract with Republic Records in August 2020. Republic Records declared Angelina Jordan their highest priority new artist. Reportedly her family requested Republic to allow her as normal a childhood as possible and therefore have yet to fully promote her. During the pandemic, Angelina was often seen buying meals for the homeless on the streets of Los Angeles. In November 2020, Angelina released “Million Miles” which she wrote after the passing of her beloved maternal grandfather. She dedicated the song to anyone who has ever lost a loved one. Angelina had previously released, 3 other original songs: “What is Life”, “Oslo” and “Shield” In April 2021, her original “7th Heaven” was released. A jazzy, danceable, inspiring song. Angelina has posted numerous short performances on Tik Tok and Instagram. Angelina had concerts in Norway in July 2022. Personally, Angelina as a great human being and her music came into my life when I needed it most. Her music has improved the quality of my life more than I can express. I now introduce her to as many people as I can, with the hope her music will do the same for others. We know once her family believes the time is right and allows Republic Records to fully promote her, she will become the superstar she has always dreamt and believed she would be. I encourage others to use this biography to help educate others about the love, empathy, magic and beauty that is Angelina Jordan Astar and her unique music.

As the others said, since age 2, she listened for weeks to jazz music of the greats, so yes, she was influenced be Billie Holliday, Ella, Etta, Dinah, Sachmo, and all the others. She was very angry, when someone wanted to sing her kid songs.

Mr. J- i'm looking forward to accompanying you on your stroll down AJ Lane. It is a thing of rare beauty as you are realizing. Also, as you say here, sometimes it is better to just listen to a song and let it wash over you in its entirety, rather than feeling an obligation to frequently stop and comment on every line or so. Take your time here. Her performances aren't going anywhere and your first hearing of them is a delight worth savoring...

Thank you Mr. J. Being a musician you seem to pick up on a lot of the nuances in her voice. Her many jazz influences come from her Grandma Mery (director of this video) who exposed Angelina to so so many of the great jazz artists of the past, Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Washington, her idol Billy Holiday, Frank Sinatra, Louie Armstrong...it is a long list but you get the idea. There was a video of Angelina at 5-6 years old in a music store in Oslo, Norway buying vinyl albums of Jazz singers from the 40's and 50's and she has absorbed every bit of that music in her tiny little body. You will notice and hear a lot of those influences in her interpretation of songs she sings....you have a great ear. She is simply a music prodigy and genius and understands music at a very high level which I believe you are picking up on already early in this journey. Love your laid back reactions but I know you are listening intently. Her Norway Got Talent performances will give you an idea of how quickly she grows from one performance to the next in a short period of time (7-8 yrs old) and her mastery of jazz at that age. She is not your normal child singer by the biggest stretch of one's imagination. Would love to see you review all 4 of her songs from NGT, starting with her audition of "Gloomy Sunday" (Billy Holiday), 2nd song sung A Cappella is Billy's "I'm A Fool To Want You", followed by Nancy Sinatra's "Bang Bang" and the finale is Gershwin's "Summertime". She sings summertime in the style of Ella Fitzgerald. If you decide to check these out, there are videos of each with subtitles available since it is a Norwegian show. Cheers and stay well, New Subscriber here. BTW, there are over 200+ videos on YT, TikTok, and IG....

Hello, Mr. J. People who comment often abbreviate Angelina Jordan to AJ just because of the typing factor. When you announce your reaction video and use her name, it is best to say her name. Announce Angelina Jordan and then use Angelina. People often need to use AJ in the comments for the sake of time while typing. Comments are not as difficult as making the reaction video, but..... Have you been filled in on the story about why she performs barefoot? Yes, you pick up on the influence the old time jazz singers have on young Angelina. Billie Holiday, Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, "Screaming" Jay Hawkins, Nina Simone, Frank Sinatra. You have picked up on her old time jazz schooling. Her grandparents played that old time jazz for her from day one and then she began to search on her tablet for more. Wow. 300 Pentatonix reactions? I like their music a lot, but... Grandma Ellen, out.

Many commenters will tell you about why she doesn’t wear shoes. I believe it’s best watch her interview on Norwegian television right after she had her book recounting the story published at 9 years old. I’ve seen a number of people react to it. The sound is all Norwegian dialogue but there are English captions. She sang Unchained Melody right after the interview. I’ll include the link to that to as they’re separate clips. Several reactors have commented on some Ella Fitzgerald influence in Angelina's style. Not bad company to be in. A word about her singing barefoot: Angelina was traveling in the Middle East with her family when she was 6 and she met a shoeless girl weighing people in the street for tips. The two girls talked a bit, then Angelina gave her own shoes to the girl who had none. Since that day, she sings barefoot as a reminder that there are children around the world who lack basic necessities. There's a great interview with Angelina from Norwegian TV where she tells this story with more depth. There's a version with English CC available at this link: kzitem.info/news/bejne/jpl5sniPaXWEjW0

I know it's tempting to say that Angelina has the voice of a grown woman, but I see it a little differently. To me at this age she had the voice of a young child who just happens to be a musical genius and an angel come to earth.👼

Ella is one of the singers she listened to when very small. She met a street child in the Middle East who had no shoes. She gave the girl her shoes and the girl said she would pray every day for her success. She goes barefoot to always remember the girl. She also wrote an award winning childrens book about the experience. She says she will sing for love in the world and that every child should have shoes.

Hi! Thank you for another incredible reaction to Angelina. As a child from about the age of two she has immersed herself in the singing styles of all the legendary artists of the 20s - 60s and as she got older she started listening to those who appeared after that period. Her intuitive understanding of music is such that she was able to absorb those elements of their singing which worth retaining and introduce those elements into her performances as she considered necessary to reveal the emotional content of the song. Listed below, in alphabetical order by first name, are the artists I consider to have influenced her. Adele, Amy Winehouse, Andy Williams, Aretha Franklin, Billie Holiday, Bobby Vinton, Dinah Washington, Dolly Parton,Ella Fitzgerald, Elvis, Etta James,Frank Sinatra, Gloria Gaynor, James Brown, John Legend, Julie London,Lana Del Rey, Lauren Daigle,Leslie Gore,Louis Armstrong, Maria Carey, Michael Jackson, Miley Cyrus, Nancy Sinatra,Nat King Cole, Nina Simone,Norah Jones,Patsy Cline, Rihanna, Roberta Flack, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Shirley Bassey, The Righteous Brothers, Whitney Houston, Willie Nelson. There is a comment below by @1after990 that a good example of Angelina performing in the singing style of Ella Fitzgerald is "Every Time We Say Goodbye", when she was 10 years old. He has given the link but just in case you missed his comment, the link is repeated here, in the hope that you will react to it very soon. kzitem.info/news/bejne/rIiJr2x-poZ5fXY
