Starts with short rhythm harmonica loop then 12th position then distorted blues cross harp, using Boss loop pedal. The great thing about the bluegrass standard "Angeline the Baker", is that it has a 4 bar structure that is repeated 4 times, so ideal for a loop pedal. I just used one 4 bar section and looped it. The chords are perfect for backing harmonica loops too, just the blow and suck chords of any harmonica, I threw in a quick suck 1 note towards the end cos it sounded right, but that's not necessary. I've used an E harmonica for the 2nd position as it suits my style best for whole tone bends, but that means that the 12th position harmonica is F# so sorry about that if you want to play along.
I loved the Wayfarers' "Strad's Attic" version of this old timey melody, and been playing along with them on KZitem. My version is totally based around their approach; I developed the rhythm and lead parts through jamming along with them.
I used to play this some 12 years ago, when I played with Gregg Weiss and Jim Rowe. Last week I re-learned the melody by ear. When I started jamming with youtube versions I found I'd learned it in 12th position!!!!!, which for anyone not familiar with harmonica positions, means that relative to the key a band would play it in I'm 11 jumps higher using the circle of fifths, or put another way one tone above the normal cross harp key or 5 semitones below the band key. I would never have dreamed it possible, so I've shared the tab at the end of the video. I've only ever got as far as 5th position before eg

When playing 12th position the suck5 (S5) is where you find the root note of the song, so you have to be careful as some Hohner models are tuned audibly flat at this point, so I used a Hohner MS, if you research this you can get charts showing how flat or sharp different notes are on different brands.
For the harmonica tabs I've given you what I think is the correct version of the melody, but in the video I've added trills and just played what I felt which is what I hope you do once you get going.
Just came across Juzzie Smith doing something like this a few years back. Have fun with it!
