Sloan body mechanics is deceiving on the court (1st time watching her play). She walks very lethargic on the court which gives an illusion she is not fast but Sloan is extremely fast. She is very efficient with the output of energy she uses on the court.

There is just something about Sloane's game that is just a bad matchup for Kerber. Kind of like Serena's game is to Sharapova. Just simply bad luck for Kerber and other players who have that one opponent who seems to have all the answers when they play against them.
@RobertRby93

Exactly. People often forget that match up in tennis is the most important factor. Simona vs Sloane for example is very similar to Sloane vs Angie. Every player has her/his kryptonite.
@footfault1941
5 жыл бұрын
A good observation. Agree. Sloane did not allow Kerber to play her game freely. Such a seasoned player, but Kerber did not find a winning formula. Then, she fought through each point. Rather rare aggressive rally from her, counter-attacking, drop shot (not bad, but needs to he followed up) etc., tried everything up to the situation. Sloane, the fitter, tonight had an answer. A good match overall. < 1 hr 40 min in w 6-3 means long rally, long point, long game ....

Don, I think that it is not a fair comparison between Sloan and Naomi. I admire Sloan since she became professionnal and I always thought that she was going to be a dominant player in WTA’s tournaments and she is currently doing so. Naomi is taking her first steps in the biggest WTA tournaments and she has not done bad; she’s in her twentles; there is a lot to learn and experience to gain. She has the shots, a good service, and she moves well in court. However, she needs to strength her team because, after she won the US Open and entered into the top ten player list, she is going to play more frequently with the best WTA plqyers.

I think this court is playing slower than other hard courts, and that seems to favor Sloane as well with her counterpunching play and the ability to pounce when the opportunity arises. Still needs to improve on that first serve. If she ramps that up, she'll be very tough to beat.

Sloane is a very calm, cool player who strides slowly across the court when entering for the first time, but do not be fooled she is very fast and can be more than a match for her opponent.
