I remember so vividly watching the last episode for the first time. I've never had this feeling of alienation and total immersion watching something. I remember Laura Palmer screaming and this song playing in the background with the final credits. I stood up without knowing where I was or what have I watched. I remember walking in my house and going to the kitchen like an automaton. I remember being so spaced out, not self aware of my physical surrounding. It felt like this lag that you have when you wake up from a dream. Inhabiting two worlds at the same time. It took me like two minutes two think about what I have watched and what all this strange feelings were. This experience of pure immersion is like something I have never felt before I cannot even describe it. I just felt it and that's more than enough for me.

Michael Silve I’m not sure David Lynch can technically ‘rip off’ his own movie Lost Highway... but imo the end of TPTR is not at all like the ending of that movie

Michael Silve The Return, like LH and Lynch’s other films are open to interpretation, you seem to made up your mind about a few things. I hope you’re not offended that I don’t agree. I like that it’s left open and that there isn’t a definite final ‘answer to everything’- the magic is in the mystery

That’s not at all what I took away from it. The lights of the house go out and the electricity, which represents evil, is cut off from the house, the nexus of the Black Lodge in that reality. Laura awakens, remembers the trauma right after Coop’s confused but maybe slightly hopefully query of “What Year is it?”, and screams, forever breaking the power of Jowday and the Black Lodge. “Laura is the key”...Not Coop. Coop just had to get her there. The sad takeaway is that Coop sacrifices his moral fiber to become Richard, an amalgam of Coop and Mr. C, and his feelings for Diane, in order to find Laura. It’d heroism on trial. Laura is the actual hero.

chris Mcshaves, you do come up with som good idears, and made med think, but David Lynch want's us to come up with our own interpretation of what it all meant. What Cooper went through was very similar to want Phlip Jeffries went through, even in the missing pieces Jeffries is chocked to find out what year it is, and then disappears, much like Cooper. That could be what the lights turning off meant. Cooper may not be dead, but i think he faild his mission, and in the end that was all he ever could have done. It's sad, but it makes you think about all the small clues, like the gray man with no mouth who lives under the moon, i keep thinking who that guy is, and it's fun.

Season 3 Itself was only an illusion of what we thought twin peaks was in modern time reality. The ending here with cooper and laura symbolizes our unfulfilled desire of lauras answer to cooper of whose the killer, even after the show completely combusted from our desire for even more answers in the real life world of twin peaks which is not even the real twin peaks TV show we used to watch and enjoy in the first season. This basically means that it's a kind of paradox of what we think twin peaks was gonna be like in our modern world, which is wiping out David Lynch and Mark Frost's intention of twin peaks from existence and replaces it with our own, which is leaving us tied in darkness with this one image of Cooper and Laura here. It's trying to tell us to appreciate things with wonderment and to make us love one another, and not letting us be consumed by the past, or else, your stuck in the past with "fire" in your heart. And that fire turns black like Hawk said in season 3 with his ancient map. To have wonderment and love in this existence, you have to look deep within yourself and love the depth for what it is, and not what you want it to be. The love is not to retain, it's to remember what it once was... Balance and acceptance. :-)

I was thinking the chord progression was similar to A Love Song (For Cubs). Wonder if Angelo became aware of them from all the TP refs in their music.
Idk. I think it was a happy ending. I think that after the final scene in The Return, we go to the ending scene of Fire Walk With Me. Judy has been defeated and Laura is free.
