This is pretty good and for a meal like this, easy to make. Ingredients:
-A few tomatoes (I guess about 3, but my mom didn't say)
-1 bunch parsley
-Filo dough #4
-Several sticks of butter
-Kefalograviera or other hard cheese
-Half cup breadcrumbs or biscotti bread (very hard, dry bread for coffee)
-Two packs ground beef
-Black pepper
-Salt
-Olive oil (my mom used butter in the pan instead of olive oil, so this is optional)
-3 eggs
-Feta cheese
-Brush (for the butter)
Keep the filo dough #4 in the fridge until you're ready to use it or it will get brittle. Chop the tomatoes and parsley. Whisk three eggs in a bowl. Put a stick of butter in a large pan and bring the heat to about medium to melt the butter (you can use olive oil instead and just heat it). If you don't have readily made breadcrumbs, take the biscotti and crush it thoroughly, either by hand or in a blender.
When the butter has melted/olive oil is hot, crumble up the two packages of ground beef and put them in the pan and stir. Sprinkle black pepper on it.
Chop a few tomatoes (I guess about 3), and pour them in with the meat and stir. Add salt ("Fuck salt" - Tourettes Guy). Be happy that you won't have to cook like this again for a while.
Grate one cup of hard cheese. My mom used kefalograviera, but that's expensive and not available everywhere, so you can use another hard cheese. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Melt two sticks of butter (my mom ended up using 2 1/2) in a pot for later.
Watch for when the beef gets brown, because you can lower the heat and then turn it off. You must turn it off before the next step, which is to whisk 3 eggs in a bowl and chop one bunch parsley into a bowl.
Add the crumbled biscotti/breadcrumbs to the pan, add the parsley, and then add the grated kefalograviera and eggs and stir. It's important that the heat is off so the eggs don't get cooked too strongly and become like scrambed eggs. They need to be absorbed into the beef. Add crumbled feta cheese. Stir everything thoroughly.
Next comes the boring part. In a clean baking pan, use the brush with the melted butter and brush the pan with it. Take the filo dough out of the fridge and put one layer of it on the pan, tucking in the corners as necessary. Brush butter on it. Repeat until you have 10 layers (my mom did 12, I guess because she lost count), brushing butter on every single layer, including the top one.
Add the beef mixture from the pan and level it all out so it's evenly distributed. Add another ten layers of filo dough on top of the beef, brushing butter on every single layer, including the top one. Sprinkle some water on top so the dough doesn't rise in the oven.
Cut part of the way down in the kreatopita to make rows of it, but don't cut all the way down.
Put the baking pan in the oven for about 40 minutes or until the top gets brown and flaky. Let it cool for 20 minutes and serve. It's probably better to reheat it in the oven than a microwave, since I think that would make it more soggy.
My mom says, "That's the idea," like Tommy Wiseau.
