Wonderful! What a great book. To my "western" eyes, nothing is more exotic and fascinating than 19th century Cambodia. I wish that this book was re-published in English.
We were poor, but we were happy. The songs are often performed to serve Neakta, Bonjean Arak or dead relatives who passed away long time ago. When I was young, I used to watch old ladies dance with these types of Music. The beat sounds the same as Kantrim songs in Surin. Nowadays, there are not many events this in Cambodia. I really miss watching old ladies dancing to serve Neakta.

Cambodia name came from Kambhoj from the Indian King who ventured fast east and married the Naga pricess, hence you see so many Hindu /Brahma temples. Even other countries like Java, Sumatra were under Hindu kings

Your wrong. Mon Khmer native tongues belong to Hindu family just like Munda for example. Austro Asiatic mean South Asian in Latin. Se-Asia was also known as Greater India before WW2 aka East Indie. Hinduism is a distort term by Westerner and invader. The real term isn't Hinduism but "Santana Dharma". The Indian Prince you have mention is really Abraham (Preach Tong in Khmer story) mention in the BIBLE dated back 4000 year ago. Khmer - Yuda are the real Southern Tribe Yudas/Judah. Lion statue /sealed found alover Asia monuments including Nagar Vat (Angkor Wat French Pronunciation). Kambojah is the same bloodline as KAMBU-JADAS. After the Indian Prince / preist given offspring his seeds travelled toward their father land around ancient Iran (Indian dominate lots of West Asia land in ancient time).. This explain with mon Khmer native tongues can be traced from ancient Iran stretching into Se-Asia. Yes we was in ancient Egypt known as Ke-met...........

For those who’s keep commenting and make false claims I’ll invite to search and study and open your learning toward Khmer histories who we were and how massive country we use to possess during Khmer Angkorian Civilization . Unfortunately Since histories Khmers Empire were looted and raided and attacks on multiple occasions from neighboring people . Khmer outlying provinces were lost in a massive scale in dimension and sizes. Khmers Empires was risen and its full glory that is heavily influence toward other neighbors countries . As Khmers martial art, culture, clothing , classic dances these inspire from Ancient Khmer Angkorian Civilization

Even wild life of Cambodia has been destroyed since the modern genocide from 1975-1979. Elephants and other wild life are bountiful in Khmers jungle and forestries but it’s been scarce nowadays because they’ve been killed during the war time or mostly fled and find refuge to others neighbors territories.

Stop learning fake histories. Google is free you can find so much information there but be aware not everything there is accurate. There are some websites that also shows fake history. Angkor wat is built by Cambodian ancestors, not Siam or Thai. Angkor wat will always belong in Cambodia no matter what

I believe this is a late answer but these type of musics are called “Arak music” and usually there are no specific title for each track but more of ceremonial music
