My grandmother in Kolkata used to make a very similar dish (back in the 80s) with chicken...both refreshing and nostalgic to see this style of jhalfrezi instead of the usual north indian tomato based jhalfrezis! Thank you!

Easy to follow and looks delicious..Well done! This is the closest to what my family made...we deep fried potatoes and onions. Cooked the meat with ginger garlic and red chilies. Then added the potatoes and onions to it but it is mainly a dried dish we have.

I normally prepare it differently so that it is a dry dish to be accompanied by rice and dhol/pepper water. In the absence of left over beef roast, the beef is boiled earlier to imitate pot roast and subsequently diced. I prepare my diced potatoes similar to yours. However for my spices, I slice a small onion, break up two or three red chillies and julienne the ginger. On heating up the oil, the spices are added and fried till the onions are brown, the add the precooked diced meat and fry for a few minutes after which the potatoes and salt may be added. Garnish with chopped coriander and some fried onions.

Growing up in Calcutta, after Sunday Roast Beef, we used the left overs to make Jhalfrezi. It was, always, dry. One of my favourite meals.

Will have to give it a go but i still think there is nothing better than making this with left over roast beef, chicken or lamb and with fried onions on top. Dhall or pepper water rice and jhalfrezi. Anyone know a good recipe for husani dirty (not sure i have spelt it right).

Yes can make it dry as well. If you use left over roast it will be dry as opposed to oyster blade uncooked meat which I used , hence a bit wet. Thank you and wish you happy cooking
