How about the other N word. That's a closer comparison. That word used to be acceptable until it was imbued with negative connotations through common usage. It is an insult and unless you are talking with a census taker, you are being denigrated whether you're aware of it or not. It's like those old Blacks who didn't mind being called negr**s because it was "just a word that means black in Spanish". A Karen or a Boomer can be any creed any color and yes any age, as long as their exhibiting the behavior described by the term. Ok boomer has been lodged at younger people espousing the same things were better back when only certain people had rights nonsense as well. @@nancyx6390 People born between 1929 and 1944 are called the Silent Generation even though they are the loudest and most obnoxious of them all. They got the name because there were fewer of them than the older WW2 Generation and younger Boomers. The early 1940s saw some of the lowest birthrates in recorded history. Silents tended to admire and tried to emulate the WW2 Generation but felt invisible next to them. At the same time, a lot of Silents hated the Boomers for being allowed to grow up spoiled and entitled instead of feeling like unwanted burdens in the middle of the Great Depression.

I’m a Boomer and have no problem being referred to with that word. Unfortunately, I feel that as time goes by, we have all been swept into the same basket of uninformed, uncaring, entitled. We are not all the same, but it seems younger people look at Boomers and discuss us as if we are. I do agree with Tim that many of us are tired of being blamed for everything that’s happened since the days we were born. No one cites how many of us cut our political teeth during the Civil Rights movement or Women’s Equality or environmental issues. These are only a few of the positive things our generation has been involved with. We all aren’t old, decrepit grumps complaining about world and societal changes. Many if us embrace them. I’m tired of being called a drain on society because I receive Social Security and Medicare. I worked for them from the time I was 18. I stopped long enough to have 3 kids and went back to work until I took early retirement to care for a new grandchild whose mother was deaf/blind and contracted Guillian-Barre syndrome. I then helped my daughter when she had a baby 13 weeks premature. I now take care of my husband who has vascular dementia. During this period, we lost our home due to the 2008 debacle and have never fully recovered. Don’t tell me I’m a drain on society! I’ve never received a penny I didn’t work for, but to hear some younger folks, you would think everything was handed to us with little effort on our part. BTW, all 3 of our kids went to college with no help from anyone. My husband and I paid for virtually everything. They graduated college debt free and no government assistance. I like being a Boomer. For the most part, our generation had a great time and did some wonderful things. We also screwed up. Hey, it’s what kids do. Get over it. What I dislike is people thinking we’re all alike. We are as diverse and complicated as any generation before or since. I don’t see Gen X or Millennials as all being the same. Think AOC and Charlie Kirk or MTG and Jasmine Crockett. We are a diverse and exceptional society, political differences aside, and to disparage one group (or in this case , generation) over another does none of us any good. Each generation should build on the accomplishments of the last and forgive the errors as much as possible. We did what we did with the knowledge and technology we had. Name calling, blame, finger pointing doesn’t help anyone. It’s time to start looking at each other as fellow citizens doing the best we can for ourselves, our families, our communities, our country and our planet.
