They can’t run in the rain but with the new wet weather tire that they’ve sat in for years they don’t have to dry short tracks all the way anymore. I’m glad they finally used them and that also explains the first caution. Nascar is known to throw “competition cautions” for different reasons, this one was for everyone to put the drys on. Sometimes it’s tire life expectancy, sometimes it’s fuel.

I've been saying it for years...put the darn road course rain tires on!! And they finally did it. I was loving that. This was nascar history. This was the 1st points race ever in the rain on a oval. They're now racing in the rain on on ovals that are 1 mile or shorter. This is a new rule. ( more like after it stopped raining they'll put the rain tires on and have at it. Nascar won't race in a hard raining conditions becauseof visibility problems) Richmond Virginia's race track is 3/4ths of a mile around. Banking in the corners is 14 degrees.

@@ExploringTheSmoke new for 2024 on the cup schedule: they finally repaved north wilksboro short track. Last repaved In 1982. That track was a regular on the schedule for decades until 1996. Then totally abandoned and left to fall apart. (nascar was expanding to different city's around the usa in the late 1990's. n.wilsboro got cut from the schedule) they Fixed up/restored the track in the last couple years and nascar ran the all star race there last year. I went to that event. So awesome. It was like traveling back in time to how nascar was in the 1990's. the track is in the north carolina mountains. So the Front straight goes downhill. Back strait goes uphill. Nascar cup series is racing at the st. Louis oval for the second time. They go to the iowa short track for the 1st time. It's just like Richmond. There bringing the brickyard 400 back at Indianapolis motor speedway. Racing on the oval this year instead of the road course. So yeah there's races to look forward to even for this (decades) long time fan.

I wasn't able to watch bc I was at work but I did watch the final few laps on Martin Truex Jr's on board cam on the Nascar app. Coming to the checkered flag, Larson ran Truex to the wall, then Truex took a swipe at Larson, then proceeded to tap Hamlin's bumper out of frustration. One of my favorite NASCAR KZitemrs, Eric Estepp (subscribe if you want to keep up with daily NASCAR news from him) put this at 25% on his Groovy Gauge because of how frustrating it all was. I’m glad my favorite driver Denny Hamlin won. On his podcast he said that he was not paying attention to the zone instead he was looking at the mirror trying to judge when Logono was going to go and that’s why he nearly jumped but I don’t think he jumped the restart. And NASCAR didn’t Rigged the race, They said that the restart was under review and said it was good. Also maybe Truex missed a shift and caused it to look like Hamlin jumped. @@ExploringTheSmoke Most drivers seem to be pretty good about owning up to when the situation is their fault... like this, if you spin your tires off a corner you *know* the guy behind you is so close he might not dodge you, can't put it on him because you also know in the next corner you're going to be so far up the next guy you might tap him if he loses momentum. The *real* hotheads seem to be gone by the wayside for the most part, there might be one or two left that are near their level. Always love seeing more people get into NASCAR, been following it since I was 5! Don't get too worked up over the long-time fans being a little rowdy/argumentative, they're essentially the closest thing America has to football hooligans ;) It all comes from passion for the sport. With the wider uptick in popularity and being the beginning of the season, it's a great time to start watching! Also I would say wait until the second half of the season if you want to start watching full races, that's when it switches networks to NBC. FOX's coverage is notoriously subpar, NBC does a much better job.
