The Angus Trim Type XIIIb.3 I picked up from Gus last weekend with my pals Vic and Jon at @UnsheathedSwordReviews, after some incredible time with him chatting about swords and cutting tatami mats with a number of sword friends.
An absolutely outstanding sword with some of the best handling for a cut-centric sword one can possible hope for. Starting at 50.4mm (over 2") wide at the base, with a very subtle profile taper and a huge amount of distal taper, it weighs 2.16 lbs (972g) with a 30" blade. A hexagonal cross section in the bottom half of the blade where it the edges of the central facet flank the twin-fuller, and gradually transitions to a full lenticular cross section on the very thin upper portion of the blade, where you can see very well in the close up shot of the blade. You would think that a blade thin as a paper at the foible would be floppy, but it is actually rather rigid.
Victor Suriano and Jon Hartz and I filmed the collaborative review of this sword at Vic's place for both Unsheathed Sword Reviews and my channel. All 5 of us had so much fun cutting with this sword, especially the ladies who did some false-edge double-cuts so clean that the lower halves of the bottles were left unspoiled and standing--not easy for anyone with even true edge double-cuts, let alone false edge cuts. I broke down the sword's historical inspiration, handling traits, and fit & finish thoroughly in this video with abundant 4K close-up footage, please also head to @UnsheathedSwordReviews channel and check out some of the unique takes and a direct comparison with another Atrim model of Oakeshott type XIIIb owned by Vic.
