the day this was released, I asked my good friend at school if he would come watch it with me. Logan, R.I.P. Neither of us had taken any hallucinogens or psychedelics at that point.. but we somehow knew.. man I will always remember that night. Thank you AnCo for a lifetime of memories.

one of the things that I love about panda and avey, besides the sheer creativity, is the effortlessness of it. it's like the concept of "tao." they're definitely tapping into some sort of flow. nothing ever sounds forced. weird? hell yes...and i love it. no band sonically does anything remotely like this...this good. i just love how unpretentious, un-thought-out, and so very in the moment their melodies and rhythms are. now to go listen to panda's song 'boneless' which is perfect, of course.

If I could take my eyes away, might not get so dry now If I could keep my hands away, might not feel so dried out And when I would feel I'd know that it is real I'd like to stay with natural things, organic as my skin that peels And not so often enter in outer-space that I can never touch Back-lit and bite, fields in a mine, to turn it off, and to make sure I keep it real with myself and never let obsessions with connections to an outside source Be crippling my abilities to breathe and take a step out from my usual places Just to make sure I keep it real with my own and never let a tendency to tread in water with no target Cripple my abilities to deal with things that scream 'be careful' Seeing screens with me behind it No one's between what I should and why am I seeing how to do it? yeah definitely, that line, to me means that the screen mentality has invaded his very thoughts, to the point where he is subconsciously viewing life as if it where on tv or the internet. Like everytime he does something he, against his will almost, thinks about it in terms of how it will look on screen. I think most people do this to some extent, like considering how their life will appear to others on facebook etc I can imagine when you have entered the public eye this is magnified many times.

When AnCo writes a song about drugs (which happens incredibly rarely), it's obvious. The last track from Centipede Hz, for example, Amanita. This song is very obviously about the internet. "I'd like to stay with natural things, organic as my skin that feels, and not so often enter in another space that I can never touch - backlit.... "I keep it real with myself and never let connections to an outside source be crippling my ability to breathe." As someone who just deleted Facebook, I definitely identify with this song. Of course, I am sitting here writing comments on KZitem. So there's that.

@nauseousqueasy I'd venture to say that you're both wrong. The song is pretty obviously a lamentation of the prevalence of technology in our lives. The "outer space i can never touch" is the internet, which "cripples my abilities to breathe and take a step out from my usual places" because we tend to filter our internet experience to our own interests and beliefs. As for the song being anti-materialistic, I'd argue the opposite. The lyrics definitely favor the tangible over the virtual.

Nothing is more annoying than high-and-mighty drug talk on an Animal Collective video. 1) Not ALL of AnCo's music is about drugs. Those who only feel a "drug vibe" and nothing more, I'm sorry to hear that. They're music isn't simply the sonic equivalent of a crack rock. 2) To those who bash drug use and talk about the members of AnCo like they're fundamentalist Mormons...you're annoying too. Some drugs are very positive...especially for creativity. Altering your consciousness is not immoral.

Times are changing. It won’t always be this way. Most of us can look back at our ancestors and go “wtf were they thinking? Ban alcohol?” I can say pretty confidently that in the future (because it’s happening even now), drugs will be understood and humanity’s future grandchildren will look back and go.. “wtf were they thinking? Ban drugs?”
@avedic
Жыл бұрын
@@sopwith2721 Totally agree. It's interesting to ponder what's normal and accepted now...that will be thought heinous in 50 years. I'd argue the entire concept of incarceration will be on that list. The fact we think it's necessary or inevitable is merely due to a lack of insight and better solutions...which WILL come, in time. As for drugs, yes...that's a taboo waning with each passing year. Have u read the book "Drug Use for Grown Ups" by Dr Carl Hart? It's all about breaking that taboo.... it's so good.

This is the truth right here. If you search around on the old AC forum you can find some background information on the members. I remember reading that Avery started dropping acid when he was fourteen, and I'm pretty sure he was with the other members of the band at the time. But I know that they've since slowed down with the psychedelics and even claim to be completely clean of them. On Centipede Hz they have a song called Amanita, which is one of the "sacred mushrooms".

The music is the drug. Along with everything else people enjoy on a daily basis. There are ways to understanding how to release certain chemical in your brain to create heightened experiences. They trip off of their music. You see, they don't need drugs at this point. It's why they do what they do.

@lmfviolet78 haha...excellent. I actually started doing that with my own songs as a way to inspire creative ideas. Or I'll take two of my songs and mash them together, ala Girl Talk, and see how it sounds. Usually it's just muddy and incoherent....but every now and then a gem shines through and it sounds amazing. I now use this idea, mashing up my own songs, to write new stuff all the time. It leads you into really creative territory you never would have thought up on your own.

This is an odd but popular nitpick with humans. Look, there's a lot of bad shot that comes from the screen, but the same could be said about offscreen (nature in general) I've had more enjoyable experience on screen then off and I don't see that realistically as a bad thing. I don't see nature being any better than human nature and our nature to have technological advancements. I wish I was high right now

I think it could go much deeper than just the "material world" I believe that it's just talking about illusions in general.
