I was in Oregon for work one time and stayed near the University of Oregon. I am a huge fan of Animal House so of course I had to see some of the filming locations. I got up really early before my meetings the next day which were about an hour away. I drove to the campus, parked and was walking around. It was about 5:30-6 am at this point, I saw a groundskeeper raking or cleaning up trash or whatever, I asked him if he could tell me where Memorial Hall was, he said, “it’s closed at this hour”. I said, yeah I know. And he says, “Animal House Fan?” After all these years it’s still that popular. True story.

The original location picked was the University of Missouri (Columbia, MO) but the fucking President at the time, nixed it after reading the script! The b*stard cost that University so much money in its famous place (as Eugene, OR does now), and numerous prestige for prospective high school graduates by being so prissy. The film was only a parody of college life, not a reflection on the actual college where it was filmed! Idiot! From Wikipedia on the University of Oregon [Eugene, OR] "...The film National Lampoon's Animal House (1978) was filmed on the university campus and the surrounding area. The building used as the exterior of the Delta House (which belonged to the University of Oregon Pi Kappa Alpha chapter) was demolished in 1986, but the interior scenes were shot in the Sigma Nu house, which still stands. The Omega house belongs to the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity and still stands. The sorority house where Bluto climbs the ladder to peek in on the female students was actually the exterior of the Sigma Nu fraternity. Other buildings used during filming include Johnson Hall, Gerlinger Hall, Fenton Hall, Carson Hall, and the Erb Memorial Union (EMU). The EMU dining facility known as "The Fishbowl" was the site of the famous food-fight scene. The Knight Library and the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art can also be seen in the movie."

I graduated from the U. of Florida in 1965 (and went from there to the Vietnam War). This movie makes me laugh and get depressed and angry all at the same time. It's not how we acted at the time, but it's how we felt. It's hard to explain.

Bluto's is worse. Because it's final. All classes incomplete means you (in most schools) have one year to finish the class. Trust me, I've been there....even got an 'L' once.....'Lost". I can't remember the criteria to get that but I got that (along with more than a few "I's, W's, A's - F's" :) )

Young people who see this movie today may have a hard time understanding the significance of the draft issue. This takes place in 1962, and the Vietnam War was already well underway. At the time (this was later repealed), men who entered college full time were exempt from having to serve in the military.

Well underway? You must be a grad of government schools. Gulf of Tonkin resolution wasn't until 1964, and no real military presence until '65. Don't argue the fact that there were a handful of "Advisors" working with the ARVN's in '62. The Cuban missile crisis was the big event in 1962.
