I’ve always loved this song as it just shows the soldiers ingenuity as they took a popular song “Hard times come again no more” and changed it took fit what was going on with themselves.

Speaking of which one song I'd love for them to do is "Farewell, Captain". Originally it was a stately slow tune used by the Confederacy but they sped it up and gave it new words just after peace was declared about just how damn glad they were that they were going home again. kzitem.info/news/bejne/yI2ms3aVm6WnfqQ

Anytime Civil War hardtack is brought up, I always recall accounts of soldiers saying that it was hard enough to stop bullets. Poor guys. Happy Veterans and Remembrance Day ❤ 🇺🇸 🇬🇧

Soldiers had a trick with the hardtack and that was to soak it in water or coffee, mash it up, and then put it in the skillet with the salt pork as it cooked. I tried making hardtack on a few occasions, one time I gave a few to cadets in a CAP meeting, not sure what they did with them. I said it was made out of water and flour, one of our members said "isn't that what they make drywall out of?" I think it is.
