The amount of planning that goes into these animations is simply amazing. And then to come up with music that matches the action, wonderful.

This Song Actually Sound Pearl! I Lovin' It!
@flagnarb8066
3 жыл бұрын
The animation feels like it's missing a certain Cinematic and Aesthetic touch (i.e it definitely feels homemade/not studio made?) But honestly? the music and composition of the instruments feel Really Really Nice. I can only imagine the programming hell that this is in the back end (which is to say, "even if it doesn't look beautiful, it's Absolutely Impressive") And all that being said, I'm really excited to see how you might improve, so I'm subscribing to see more! Now back to the feedback/critique... I really REALLY adore the pendulum as the main attraction, though i feel it is a bit out of place. The rest of the environment looks ethereal and alien (which is VERY animusic imo) and the synths are beautiful, especially that big arch lasers sound. I'm not sure if making the pendulum look more alien would have helped, but it definitely feels out of place. A bit like an Iphone or fridge in the middle of a medieval villiage (though this may have been on purpose!) The 180° turn to see the other half of the set is also a bit jarring, there's a storyboarding rule that you never pan or cut to a 180° shot because of this; I'm sure there's a few exceptions to this, but most of the animusic videos had everything laid of on one end (great examples are Retro Future, Drum Machine, and Heavy Light - the camera is effectively always on the fourth wall, or looking at the back "wall"), and when it didn't, (pogo sticks, resonant chamber) it usually either 1. always saw the Facing side of the instrument (pogo sticks) or 2. focused on smaller different elements in small angle rotations like 15° pan shots, or something similiar (resonant chamber, pipe dream 1+2) The most major critiques are the angle change and how jarring the pendulum is (as Good of a touch it is, bc of how unique it is) My other much more minor critique, is that there's only 4/5 main instruments. I understand why (as an occasional composer), sometimes a song only has a few instruments; and i expect part of the reason there's so few is because most likely you're a team of one person working on the coding + everything else, so it's a very minor critique. Putting the flame style pads on the other side between the small arp(?) tiles and the Newton's Cradle might fix this and the 180° turn problem! The animation also occasionally glitches out and completely stops at a point, but i blame the program + youtube for that one All of that being said, this is extremely impressive, and i know you'll improve with time. And thank you for making this!!! EDIT: after reading some of the other replies, this is even more impressive; really sorry to hear about getting laid off man, I hope you're doing alright now!

The pendulum like thingy is a Newton's Cradle. It has 5-7 balls depending on how big it is. Pull one ball and release it, and the ball at the very other end will bounce up, and it will repeat. The middle balls will be perfectly still. The same can happen whem you pull two balls.

@ScareCrow7272
3 жыл бұрын
@@mauvelous1productions i make a c++ program that parses the midi file. There are classes for each instrument. The bass class contains the 7 tubes that play the bass sound. When the midi data says a note is on, i modify the 3d object accordingly, add particles and lights, then write all that to a lightwave scene file. Lightwave scene files are simple text files, but the object files are binary data - i had to do some digging to parse those and modify points to give the illusion of moving parts...

Hard to explain. I made a c/c++ program where each instrument is a class. I parse the midi file I used (a remix of an old c64 song). Each class controls a 3d object. I save the state of each object in a file to a disk. I then use that data to create scenes in my rendering software.

knowing that this is an old C-64 demo, I'm wondering how the voices were allocated since the C-64 only has 3 voices (4 if you wire up the User port as a beeper speaker), but there are more than 4 voice elements here and I cant see how the system can effectily switch the voices around while still maintaining the drums, beat, bass, lead and backup synth smoothly. If its out there, Id honestly like to see the waveform of this.
