It's complicated. Basically, if the unit is outputting 240v it can only charge via Solar. If you are outputting 120v through the built in outlets it can be charged using the 120v charge cable or solar, but not at the same time. I believe that if charging with the 120v power cable turns on it will stop solar charging.

If this unit won't run a space heater for little more than 3 hours, how can it handle a whole house in the winter for like an hour? Is there a page that shows actual realistic usage when there is a blackout and it's plugged into the electrical panel? Anker's web page shows one F3800 controlling an entire house and says ' One Power Station Total Home Energy Anytime'. I find that hard to believe. I think it may do that , but only if you buy a ton of expansion units and how much would that cost over the price of something like a Generac or Kohler generator? What if I bought two of these SOLIX F3800's and connected them together. How many hours of uptime would that get me if I only ran the lights, a TV, my computers, the fridge and charged my phones? I'd like some real world examples.

Pulling ~1700 watts constant probably put the battery under voltage cutoff to get the last half a kw/h. Usually a BMS doesn’t come back until it is past some threshold. I’d be curious to see its capacity test with like a 300w average load. Which would be what I would have with some lights/fridge/internet/tv on, and maybe using the microwave for a couple of minutes.

Yes, it is Trex. I’ve called their headquarters and maybe they’re just lazy because they’re not gonna sell a lot but I need one board the long one and that’s it. Unfortunately it’s either that or I have to replace the whole deck to make it match. I also find that the deck does change. If you have it covered up, it’s light sensitive and if you ever find that there is a Difference in color just leave it in the sun uncovered, and it will all start to match again. I just received my F3800. Nice and ready to go. But?? I ask Anker Support about charging the powerhouse with my DeWalt generator. My initial concern was the gen puts out 120v 20 amp = 2400 watts. Anker only accepts 1800 and wanted to know if this would be a problem. Watts no problem but the gen is. My gen is not a pure sine wave. Modified sine which almost all gas gens are. So the dilemma is that could damage the unit just like other sensitive electronic. So the question with this new Anker F3800 and your out of power for 3 days and its raining, how do you charge the unit?

At my home, I tend to get power outages during the winter. During the winter I might use 30kWh per day (same as you) because I have electric heat pumps. Unfortunately, during the winter I only have 4 sun-hours per day. (and lots of cloudy days too) So, let's look at that example. You need a battery that can last 20 hours a day, which is 25kWh. Anker sells expansion batteries, so you could add enough of those to get to that level. You also need to produce all 30kWh with solar in just 4 hours. That means the solar array needs to be 7.5kW (minimum). You probably saw in this video that I could charge about 1.3kW. Point is, the built-in solar charge controller is not powerful enough for this situation. I think this Anker power station is a great choice for some situations, but I wouldn't choose it for running a house 24/7 off of solar.

@@jonjohns8145 that trick works on every other "power station" so I can't see why it wouldn't work here for a cheap way to expand capacity, but like you said, you gotta have another way to charge those, would be nice if all these companies committed to a expandable battery agnostic connection so you can build your own battery, cause I can build a 14 KwH pack for under $2,500 and these companies want like 4 grand for a 3-4 KwH pack. I'm a bit confused by the solar inputs. It says 11v-32v 10A and the 32v-60v 25A ? What does that even mean ? Why is the amp much lower for lower voltage. Would it be because their wire gauge is to low for lower voltage ? And what do you guys think of hooking up something like an EG4 chargeverter to the solar inputs ? I feel like the 1440W ac input is charging pretty slow at about 2h45 to fill it... For my use case it could work but having the generator running as little (noise) and as efficiently as possible is my goal. By using the chargeverter at 2400W i could get closer to 1h30-45, almost 1h less.. Was thinking of getting the Predator 5000 (when it's back in stock and fixed) Might be a little too big, 3600 running watts on propane, so 2.4/3.6 ~ 67%, a little far from the 80% target where it should be most efficient. That said, if they manage to fix their AC + Solar so we can charge with both simultaneously, might be able to hit that 80% (~2900W) by controlling the chargeverter... Anyways lots of ideas, now are they worth the hassle and the money :P..

I'll make a guess on the solar inputs. The first option (11V-32V 10A) is usually for charging from a car. A car usually is around 14-16V when running. But, a typical accessory port (cigarette lighter) is fused at 10A. So, Anker limits that input to 10A so you don't blow the fuse in your car. The second option (32V-60V 25A) is the limit of the MPPT circuit inside the power station.

Whoever does thermal design at Anker needs to go back to school. The Anker Solix C1000 sounds like a dying desktop computer fan when charging and a hair dryer after 30min of sustained 600W load. Appears that the same engineer designed this unit. I wouldn't hold my breath that Anker will get it down to 50db, which is still quite loud. Can you see how big the fans are? Watching this, I'm starting to realize how far the energy storage technology is away from ideal. I mean, 8% capacity used to make a few cuts, with the size of the unit? If you want to reach the ultimate goal of storing enough power in the summer to last through the whole winter without supplemental power (running a generator), then right now, with the latest technology, you would need a battery the size of a house. It's interesting that we have a pretty good sense about pretty much everything. If you ever done any painting, looking at a can of paint, you know roughly the area it'll cover, or filling up your car, you know a certain amount of fuel will take you a certain distance, but we don't really have the same concept in our brain (at least in mine) about electricity. It's just some magic running through a wire. This video starting to put things into perspective.

For this to be remotely useful for EV charging, it would need to be able to work with an add-on battery pack. How the numbers work on this is assume 3.5 mi/kWh and 40 miles per day driven. So you need about 12kWh of battery capacity to replenish the average American's daily miles driven. So if they sold 5kWh add-on packs, it could potentially be a viable option for that purpose.

14-50 plug is just a very common plug used by EVSEs today ("car chargers"), basically an unofficial 'standard' mostly because of how common it is at RV parks etc ... but yeah it does require an EVSE that can be bumped down if the supply can't handle the full 40 amps allowed to be pulled by NEC for that plug. Sadly most cars come with EVSE that will only pull 30 or 32 amps, but that is still more than the 25 amps of this.

Having the built-in 240VAC outputs are kinda cool, but there probably is not much of a point doing this with a power station. You get into the same problem that you do with other expandable power stations like the EcoFlow Delta Pro.... expansion batteries are ridiculously expensive and you have no ability to scale-up the pieces of the system that you might need to scale up in the future. Such as the AC outputs or solar input(s). And also, the end-to-end efficiency... solar input to AC output, is likely very poor (just like all other power stations).

When you tested it on the house, before you turn on the stove and micro, was the fridge plugged in? Can it handle the house AC unit? This looks like an great thing to have for back up.

You missed charging while also draining, or how it would be used in a semi permanent setup for construction/field work.

Been thinking about getting this for our small coffee trailer how many hours do you think we could run this before it needed to be recharged? The coffee maker does use 220 but everything else is 120 volts. Our total wattage when everything is running is 3650.
@DavidPozEnergy

If you are pulling 3,650W continuous, then it would run about 1 hour. It would be a good idea to list out your loads, and the run time of each. Maybe your loads cycle on/off periodically?

@@DavidPozEnergy ok so there's a difference in the use and run usage ? So I'm looking for load times?
@DavidPozEnergy

For example... Maybe you have 200W of lights in your coffee trailer that are on the whole time you are selling coffee. I have no idea how long you are open, but perhaps 8 hours a day. 200W*8h=1,600Wh. Lights are an example of a continuous load. You may have a mini-fridge for creamers. The fridge will cycle on/off to maintain a steady temperature inside the fridge. It might draw 150W while the compressor is running, but the compressor may only need to run 20min/h to maintain temp. In that case the average use is 50Wh/h. Off the top of my head, I'd guess the built-in battery won't be enough for a full shift. You would need the expansion batteries from Anker. But, you won't know for sure without more data.

What are the ratings of the 6 solars panels used in the solar charging test? 300 watts, volts?

I simply used the solar panels I already own. I use this solar array for the day-to-day powering of my house. Each panel is 365W, Vmp: 38.9V, Imp: 9.39A. I disconnected some of the panels from my house and hooked them up to the Anker for the purpose of testing the solar input. Is that helpful?

Hi David, I have a Hyundai Ionic 6 EV that supports Vehicle to Load, it outputs 1800w. The Solix accepts 1800w input for electric plugin charging. Does the Sollx F3800 allow both plug-in charging and house load management to extend run time?

Yeah, the size of the battery is relatively small compared to the inverter output. I think they made this choice to keep it portable. You can add external batteries if needed.

Ewwww Anker? Why would I trust a company that put's their customers at risk of being spied on by strangers from their camera line with something as volatile as a lithium ion battery? I'd have to be a fool to bring that into my home, no offense? But why did you bring that PoS into your home? Are you putting money before the life of your family or do you think it makes sense to do business with a company that put's their customers at risk? at least 712 customers of Anker had their privacy violated because Anker misrepresented the safety of their product and that was a privacy risk this is a fire hazard.

Anker has years and years of experience making battery powered backups for things. I own several. Sounds like exactly the sort of people I'd want to use for putting a large battery powered device to good use. Would I use that company to design the encryption standards for my network. Hell no. Also, Anker apparently fixed their security issues eventually. There are countless companies that have had similar problems. Anker's error was lying about it at first.
