Brilliant video, thank you for sharing. Ref the pond - the best way to keep the grandchildren safe is surely to teach them how to behave around water. Plus as you know the frogs, toads and hopefully newts will be great at keeping the slugs under control in the veg garden.

Yeah, the hard landscaping, improving drainage, tree & plant removal etc is going to occupy you for quite some time. You have deer🦌, we have kangaroos 🦘Gardening & kangaroos are completely incompatible here & I’ve no doubt you’ll find it so with deer eventually. You either have a deer park or a garden. I’ll be interested to see how that fancy plays out in the long term.

Never invite gardener friends to your new garden…😂 That said this was a wonderful video and should be picked up by the BBC. I have a big garden and 10 years later I tackle a section at a time like that part is my only garden. Sooner or later it starts to gel together. Lovely garden Joe. You need some workers in there that don’t give design advice. You know what you are doing 👍👍

The thing is, you ask ten experts and each one of them will have a different idea. You really need to go with what makes you happy and there will be mistakes along the way. As James said in the beginning, no point in getting stressed about it. An expat in Florida.

Good point on rewilding that even 2 acres is too small a space to 'rewild' BUT we can all garden to help wildlife (senstive planting, wildflowers, leaving some untidy spaces, provide nesting, food, water). It doesnt just mean letting the garden go to wrack and ruin it still needs a human hand to edit and manage (garden it). Great channel, hope Ann-Marie and James have subscribed.

Hahaha very good Joe. Crack on with the work there as I've just landed myself an acre with very similar features, blocks of small pointless unthinned trees, heaps of empty lawn surrounded by beautiful mature trees in various states of neglect. Need to assess everything once we're in but I'd really appreciate watching you "make mistakes" before I do 😂 Only been gardening 7 years. I think Ann was right about deep pockets, we scale up the land but never think of the scaled up cost 😂 A 5m path turns into a 100m path with two 5m thick borders. Oh no problem at all 😳😳😳

I’m with you on the fencing-we don’t want to fence our garden. We have deer and rabbits and were pretty concerned initially, however 2 years on they really haven’t been as much of a problem as we thought. We quite enjoy hearing the call if the deer at night and the occasional glimpse too. We are embracing the wildlife now and it really adds to the garden.
