A route of discovery as we visit a gem on the landscape - Annesley Hall, along the way we will visit a location famous for the writings of Literacy Greats and passing church ruins and the location of Motte and Bailey Castle on this 7 mile circular walk in Nottinghamshire.
Route Description:
Starting at North Hucknall in Nottinghamshire near the Ambulance Station, we head along the A611 (South) to the footpath on the right at Dobpark, follow footpath to Misk Hill, a place where the Poets and Authors Lord Byron, DH Lawrence and Alan Sillitoe have written about. Onwards to Park Forest and to Kennel Lane, continue on the track (North) to the A608, turn right along the footpath to All Saints church ruins and to Annesley Hall. After browsing the Hall head to the gatehouse and onto Dog and Bear Lane, onwards to Annesley Park, (look back for a view on the hall) Cross the road, turn left and right into the woodland follow the dirt track along side the wooded hill to a path Left up the hill to an opening this is the site of Annesley Castle (site of a 13th century motte and bailey castle) continue on the path SE to Diadem Hill and to the road A611 southbound, continue through woodland NE to Hucknall Road and south to Woodside Cottage take track opposite to Kennels the track, take track on right pass Joes wood on Left and down the track to the road roundabout and back to the Ambulance station where we started. 7 miles - 12 km's
