The Poppy doesn’t just represent WW2 or WW1 for that matter it has been hijacked politically to represent all war and conflict. That’s a problem for anyone who comes from a Land that has been taken over and dominated by the Armed Forces of Britain . What Celtic Supporters are doing is rejecting the idea that an unwanted Force who inhabits a land which they had no right too is celebrated or commemorated the same as soldiers who died fighting fascism and or oppression. The Irish diaspora was in part created by the British through the lack of help the Irish could have received during the famine. This was not an isolated incident regarding our Country because around the same period famine ravaged parts of India and the British response was to double the grain export from India to Britain resulting in the deaths of over 8 million Indian peasants. There have been several atrocities carried out in Ireland by the Armed Forces which created real resentment among the Irish. Whilst I agree with the guy in one respect that Politics should be kept out of Sport that must surely also include the minutes silence and forcing people to wear an Emblem that encompasses all conflict? Go ask a resident of Amritsar what they think of commemorating the Soldiers of the Raj who slaughtered their friends and family there during our occupation of their Land? Ask the Crow in North America ,the Aborigines of Australia and New Zealand or even the Chagossians of Diego Garcia what they think of the Poppy and British Rule. You can go on and on . As an ex Soldier who served in Ireland and survived an IRA Mortar attack I have no issue with anyone choosing not to wear a Poppy or reject what it stands for. After all these men died so we could have a choice and have a voice. Lest we forget that. May God Bless them for doing so. 🙏🏼✝️🙏🏼

@@1872Tube Hard of thinking, theres the pot calling the kettle black. He isnt talking about celtic, he's talking about celtic fans for a start. Why should anyone, irish or not, support what the british army have done in Ireland, Iraq and Afghanistan (just for starters)? Youre aware that the invasion of Iraq killed over a million people and created ISIS? Why should anyone be in support of that? Thats what the poppy stands for now, all british army involvement in every war that weve ever been involved in. Now. Why should Irish people support the british occupation of their island? Would you expect Iraqis to support the british army? Or afghanis? Youre aware that there are irish people who attend celtic games yes? The club is open to all, its not exclusive to Scottish people. While were at it. Celtic arent British at all. Celtic are a Scottish football club. They are registered with the SFA and UEFA. They are scottish and european, in no legitimate terms are they british. There isnt a single british club in existance because their isnt a british football association. The GB olympic team is the closest thing to any british football team. Now personally, I respect the poppy as I have relatives who have served and fought against the nazis. Thats why I show it respect. But everyone has different circumstances and different views. The people that fought against facism fought for everyone to have the right to free speech. I dont like people booing it, turn your back if you dont like it but I wouldnt boo. No debate to be had, the booing was Celtic fans booing those minority of other Celtic fans that chose not to stay silent, as is their choice, for you to suggest otherwise is incorrect. The poppy and indeed remembrance Sunday used to be about the loss of life during the great war, and that moment was historically always respected. That was until the British legion changed the symbol of the poppy and remembrance Sunday to reflect and remember all conflicts that the British forces were involved in. So, if individuals chose not to celebrate the memory of the atrocities by the Black & Tans in southern Ireland, or the massacres of hundreds in India, or the illegal war in Iraq, or the murder of innocent people at the hands of the British army Parachute regiment in Northern Ireland, then so be it.

British soldiers murdered Irish people, British soldiers committed war crimes in the Middle East, British soldiers decimated Africa during its colonisation along with over half the globe. I will not boo those that sacrificed their lives fighting fascism, but I have very right not applaud the rest of it. And what rubbish is he chatting about keeping politics and religion out of football? He needs a history lesson on where a lot of top teams came from - some from royal decree, some from working class lads, some as splinter teams from other clubs because they didn't agree with the direction. The subject of politics is quite literally our day to day lives, and it has played a massive part in sport and always, rightfully, will. Old head who earned a bit of respect clobbering lads on the 80's still thinking he's the big bollocks - but in reality he's nothing more than a Daily Mail reader with no clue of the past, present, or future of the game he's dedicated his life to. The glorification of the British army serves to make their enemies seem evil and dangerous. This includes the Irish republicans, who literally founded Celtic FC. If you don’t want politics in football, get rid of the poppy on kits, a sign of British nationalism and superiority The British who subjugated 1/3rd of the planet and caused death and destruction everywhere they went, including Ireland and Scotland
