Very informative video, but you skipped the 4th plug removal. This seems impossible to remove. Is there a special socket to reach this one? I can't seem to find purchase on the plug.

Hello! Really great and instructive video. I have two questions: I have a Mercury EFI 80 2016 which looks very much like the one in the video, I find it very difficult to reach the bottom spark plug, do you have any tips? 2. Do you have a similar video for the 300 hour maintenance? Thanks again for the instructive clip! :D

So you dont have to run antifreeze through the water intake?
@julianberman8600
Жыл бұрын
The Mercury outboard is self draining so you don't need to run anti-freeze thru it. It's a good practice to tilt the outboard all the way down so it drains any water in the gearcase and if its outside and tilted up we cover the prop so snow/ice/rain don't get into the exhaust area.

@@SethHarvey yes just trim down and the water will drain out the bottom. It wouldn't be a bad idea to check the gear lube for water intrusion but otherwise the engine is self draining (unlike an inboard engine or I/O)
@pikehunter23750

@SethHarvey I trim it all the way up....let it drain....then all the way down...let it drain and that should be all of it. There may be some around the prop so when you take it off to drain the gear lube....it should all be out.

They can be different. The best way to get the right part is by looking it up with your engine serial number. Mercury has a good electronic parts catalog you can try using on their website

I recently purchased a 90 hp Mercury. Changing oil and filter, fuel filter and lower gear oil tomorrow. Should I also change out the impeller? I also have a question about a Water Separator? Should I install one as well? If so, can you do a video on that as well?
@julianberman8600

Mercury recommends replacing the water pump impeller every 3-5 years or 300-500 hours, whichever comes first. Some boats have water separators installed, some don't. It's up to you. We don't have a video on installing a fuel water separator but maybe we can in the future. Thank you

I have a question: when you say at the beginning at halfway through as well that you’re running the engine after the stabilizer and again on e the oil has been changed, is it safe to do this out of the water? Or do I have to put the boat in the water prior to running it for those few minutes?

hook it up to water so you don't burn the engine up which can happen very quickly.. or put it in the lake.... these motors require water
@brinsonmarine
3 жыл бұрын
Great question. @Chuck Bowling is right, you will need water to safely run the engine. We use motor flushers (or "muffs") to connect a regular garden hose to the engine. The flushers are low cost and work very well. Just make sure the water is actually pumping through the engine when you start it to prevent overheating. You'll see a stream of water (tell tale) spraying out of the engine to indicate that the water pump is working.
