Nice discussion. The prices that RTI has on their guns is really good - yeah, many have worn bores and small issues as you mention. But I'm like you in that I don't mind doing the minor repairs. I also handload and as you say, making the ammo from 7.62x54 R brass.

The Mannlicher 1895 is also a straight pull rifle. The locking surface turns when the bolt is pulled but you don’t turn the bolt. Your comment made it sound like you do. Also while most state allow you to buy antiques without an FFL, some states like NY require an FFL for everything including flintlocks.

The noise about the Mosen when it was being sold and how much of a garbage rod it was labelled. Now they are about a $350 TO $400. You have a point about Styer 88-90. Reload and feed her.

I’ve heard not great things about RTI, both on poor quality guns compared to listed condition and issues of people getting scammed out of money straight up. I am curious in general about the 8x56r and 8x50r cartridges. The 8x50r Steyr adds reloading complexity because dies are as much or more than the price you paid for each gun you purchased. Plus the odd bore diameter and chamber size. 6.5 Carc is also freely available for about the same as average 30-06. J&G and others have it.

I got a B grade in very good condition, and I'm eager to shoot it. I have the dies the brass and the proper power, but I want to reach out to anyone who has mastered reloading for 8x50r. Does anybody know of a commercial projectile to use for 8x50r? I do not have the equipment to cast lead bullets for this cartridge. Is casting your own lead projectile the only option for shooting these rifles? Would really appreciate some info on this subject matter.

I use surplus 198gr 8mm mauser rounds. Slightly undersized but it doesnt hinder accuracy that much. Need a faster burning powder than 4064. And undercharge the rounds by 10% for flapper locked systems, in the 1888 designs. The M95 can handle full powered loads.

@@theblindsniper9130 Thank You very much! I appreciate the info. Is there a particular powder that proves the safest? I was originally going to use 4831.
