Hi Trev, Have you tried putting your sleeping mat inside of your bivvy bag. I use a ex military bivvy bag and my mat and sleep system all fits inside it no problem . It solves the problem of rolling off your mat during the night. Give it a try and see how you get on. Keep them coming ,Cheers Alex.

Hey Trevor , Thinking about doing some bikepacking and need a stealthy, light tent but something that I could share with my husband or son every now and then. This looks a bit claustrophobic for two people, have you tried sleeping in it with two people?. The mongar 2 looks great but the colours are silly, that's putting me off a bit.
@SummitOrNothing
3 жыл бұрын
They are silly colours with the mongar. I have just found the Naturehike Cloud Peak. Its a little bigger, not sure for three though. I always use a 2 man on my own so maybe a cloud up 3 would be a better tent for you?

You put me off buying any of that equipment. Or would all equipment perform in a similar way? Is there: a tent that isn't noisy in wind? a sleeping arrangement the doesn't slide? a single sleeping bag that's warm enough to sleep in naked? Input appreciated. Thanks.
@muntymunt1
4 жыл бұрын
I like to use a fully geodesic tent in the wind. For the extra couple of pounds in weight I'd rather sleep better without the flapping. I use the Vango Ostro 200. I slept on Dartmoor during a gale in it this year. and it was great.

Snythetic tents are noisey, some more some less, they all flap in the wind. If you use a cotton tent like the legendry Vango Force 10 Mk 2,3,4 then its doesnt make much noise at all. ............The downside is its weight, around 8Kg+. No good for hiking but great for a base camp from a car. I had one for 30 years, and its still perfect. :-) As far as sleeping bags are concerned, then its down (sic) to how much you want to pay and how much weight you want to carry. Get a 900 FP down bag which weighs < 1.5Kg, it will cost a lot, but keep you warm. Also the sleeping mat make a huge difference. Get a thermarest Neoair xtherm Max, R value 5.7, say goodbye to £200+ and it will stop heat leaching to the ground.

Brutally honest video, it's certainly true that there are trekking days when one can ask more than once what the heck I'm doing here now... but these moments provide also often quite unforgettable memories that can make you laugh (once proper amount of time have passed, and you're having a sip of proper whisky in your easy chair in front of a fireplace...) BTW my favorite trick to make a solo camping trip more comfy is to take my dog with me (if you can still call it solo) - sleeping side by side, he provides some additional warmth, in addition to company. Plus informs if anything dodgy is happening nearby.

Hi! I would have a question about buying a tent. MT900 is really similar to naturehike cloudup 2. What do you think, whitch is the best value for money?

Is it worth the price difference between 210T and 20D? And I've heard that 210T's fabric is thicker, would it be better in terms of temperature?

This reminds me of a night I had once on sheeptor, I was so tired the next day I just went to sleep in all my wet clothes when I got home! It was similar weather and I was on a slope too lol. Well done for sticking it out. Have you done cullver steps? It’s flat and slightly sheltered, and an amazing swim spot

MC, HNY to you too Trevor. Somehow your vids seem to reflect brutal reality better than a lot of the usual thruhikers'. I think it would be difficult to get a decent night's sleep with that exposure to the wind. Doesn't Naturehike have a winter tent with a heavier (lower?) frame? I've heard people make dots of silicone on the underside of their sleeping pads with seam sealer to keep them from sliding. Dunno if that works.
@SummitOrNothing

I've heard a few different ideas now, for a decent night sleep so will try and sort something for the new year. There is another Naturehike tent I want to try, actually so hopefully in the new year will get hold of that and give it a try. Thanks for watching, glad that you enjoyed it. Happy New year

Trev another awesome video, you're braver than me. I had the same issue with a sliding sleep pad, I'm not sure if you've seen any of melon bites videos but he gave a great tip to put a few dots of silicone sealant on the bottom of the pad. This worked really well for me I used bathroom sealant about ten dots, this along with my trekology alpha 2 pillow which has a strap has helped stop me sliding around. I also put my spare base layer over the pad as well. Keep up the great work

Tent held up alright eh, considering the weather, to the wind & rain.....tha mentioned feeling a bit chilly, but tha knows what Meatloaf says, 2 outta 3 ain't bad. Just looked tent description & specs up, for an Ultralight it definitely did well. I see Naturehike reckon's on it's ok for mountaineering...i'll say this about tent manufacturers, generally they are an optimistic bunch.
@SummitOrNothing

Its stood up in some strong winds over the years - pays to have a guy line to the rear window, seems to give it a lot more strength, without it the back wants to flatten quite easy. But, out of all the tents that I use, its my favourite, for sure !
