We have a Douglas engine like this in our museum in AUS, it’s part of a WW2 generator outfit used by the RAAF. It runs beautifully. Hope you get it restored, they make a wonderful sound

Aw.. cool. I belive this may have been part for a gen set. It has a twin V pulley and is in the remainders of a frame. I hope to get it going.

Great choice for the next project Adam, a reasonably rare find these days is a Douglas 350 flat twin, similar design to the power unit used on the Douglas Dragonfly motorcycle, British quality at its best in my opinion.

Not plastic! They could have been "Tufnol". A lot of engines were built with Tufnol gears, even David Brown flirted with them, but they were prone to wear, especially if the oil wasn't religiously changed when it was due. Where Tufnol really scored, was for compliance coupling of magnetos and fuel injection pumps etc. One classic example of a Tufnol coupling was the Simms/CAV fuel Injection pumps on the Fordson Major. They made a characteristic chattering sound, especially at low rpm.

I have a motor like that in a mower that Briggs and Stratton made called a Vanguard. It's vertical shaft, valve in the block, air cooled and 20 horse. Looks like 1/2 of a pancake VW engine. SMOOTH and a ready runner. You'll get it. Might have to go get a special socket. CHEERS!

Basically the same designers are Wisconsin engine. You want to pour our oil or whatever diesel fuel down in the intake too. So? It'll set on them valves because they might be seized.

To possibly get some leverage on that crank, turn the engine around, and look for a suitable way of connecting a lever to the output shaft. Dont lever on them cooling fins again!!

Yes device is advance retard on mag , I would just fit normal plug leads for now , you can get water proof leads made up later, the ones I come across are screw together clamping and the lead screws onto a screw type fitting , they made motor cycles with the same engine , called the dragonfly ,
