I would've use a large set of bearing pullers (preferably hydraulic) to remove that wheel hub,a bug slide hammer may have worked as well,I don't know why GM in the U.S. didn't do what Holden did in Australia & mount the ABS sensors on the rear differential unit, mine has been going for 22 years without a problem. The only problem I have had is when I used a ball joint removal tool on the left hand front lower control arm & it pierced into the sealed ABS sensor reluctor unit on my Holden VY Commodore meaning that I needed a whole new wheel hub assembly which I bought aftermarket, it's just a freewheeling hub without any drive splines for a driveshaft.. The problem is that the aftermarket hub only lasted for 6 weeks then I began to hear a noise coming from the front of the car,I jacked it up & spun the wheel only to hear it rumble which was bad news. I ordered it on eBay from a Sydney seller so I ordered another one from an eBay seller which is located at Melbourne in Victoria & for the last 10 years it hasn't given me any problems !

If its easy to access the wheel speed sensor, remove it and put a borescope camera in the hole. It will show the broken magnetic ring. Test the sensor with a drill using a large hole saw with 4 magnets taped to the outside. Not sure why that ring isnt available as a separate part. Classic symptoms, the wheel speed signal drops out down to nearly zero, erratic ABS activation, feeling of having to push the gas pedal harder to move from stop. Stay gold.
