when the oil company's that own the sugar cane fields got an extension for pumping into lake O, all hope was lost. The west side of florida waters from ft myers to naples is brown with nitrogen infused bacteria.

Yup some say its also radioactive during summer and winter, with literal brain eating amoebas. Brown, smelly, toxic, filled with parasites. Id avoid it for health reasons for sure.

Water runoff and silt/sand is also mixed in based on the look of it. Fl environmental scientist here and this isn’t uncommon for water runoff from roads to be discharged into the streams and rivers. The side effect is oil, fertilizer and other crap also gets washed into the river systems… But if you’re super concerned contact FWC, DEP or EPA and file a complaint and someone will look into it. They don’t play around with our waterways and I’ve seen some big fines get handed out over the years.

Yep here in fort Myers too. They have destroyed the ocean around here by dumping sewage and that nasty Lake Okeechobee into the Caloosahatchee River.

What is it? I mean it’s crazy to think something is happening in our water systems (Flint) and no ones concerned. There was more rules & regulation for people wanting to be foster parents (e.g. I took water sample kits to certain homes to test their water before they could become foster parents) than for the city testing our waterways.

I haven’t seen anything of the sort. When did this start? How far north have you seen it, and in how many different places in Florida have you seen it?

It’s prob just normal water discharge but the location of it is concerning as it’s coming from a complex. He needs to contact FWC or DEP/EPA and file a complaint and get someone out there to examine it.

Yet the turtles have diplomatic immunity.. You mess with one egg, and they throw away the key. Not that I'm against turtles, but maybe the water should at least be treated equally.

Actually if he files a complaint with the correct organization like FWC, DEP or EPA it will get investigated. Given the water is what tourist come here for, it’s one thing that won’t be overlooked as it’s not good for tourism and their pocketbooks! Best bet though it’s natural runoff from a parking lot or roadway but it could be an illegal waste water discharge by the apartment/condo association that looks to be there. It wouldn’t be the first time I’ve seen these people discharge illegally into the river systems here in Fl and I’ve personally gotten a few of them fined and heavily at that! As an environmental scientist here in Florida I do my very best at helping to keep our state beautiful!
