Excellent video, Bryan. I’m a Double Bassist, upright bass player and a luthier. I worked on many upright basses over the years, meaning, how to get a fat, loud volume……Martin guitars? There’s a lot of bad manufacturing business on Martin’s part. When I was living in the United States, I played so many Martin guitars, and the worst one I played was a Martin D45, a boutique instrument. But I played a standard D28 that you worked on, and everyone was shocked. The 45 didn’t stand a chance against your mod. But every Martin instrument is not the same, especially with the same model title. Physics and acoustics engineering is a very essential knowledge, and you’ve got that. Good on you, Bryan, and keep the great videos rolling. Best regards from Ireland…..🇮🇪👍

A doodle doodle doodle dee ! Fantastic sounding Martin guitar. Especially the way you filed and played it Sir ! I concur with you about the Hide glue working until it isn't. My Martin is a 1998 DM Martin cracked from the end of the fretboard across the face through the sound hole and out the end. Lack of humidity in the Winter months in the Midwest and my fault no doubt. The short cracked went back perfect and held. The other I have done over 3 times. I am a novice, but I want to avoid cleating inside the guitar. That guitar of yours resonate's beautiful. Thank you for the comparisons and discussion about all 3 guitars. The neck on my DM is narrow. I have often wondered if I would enjoy a wider neck with a low action ? Thank you !

Another awesome video Sir. I absolutely love my HD-28V, my "bucket list" item...lol... After my second stroke, playing as well as I used to doesn't happen. But I'll never give up playing guitar. I'm getting ready to compare this guitar to my Recording King RD-328. Spoiler alert... The Martin is absolutely the best guitar.

Authentic / 73 , 28v in that order , the 41 sounds so open and powerfully clear , the 73 is just a level down & the 28V sounds muddy in comparison without Being muddy , just in that company it does , prob the forward shifted position making it warmer and less clearer

Agree. The V is some tough company.

Had one years ago but traded it for a Collings. 😫 because the 1 11/16 v neck was causing thumb pain. The D28 Marquis neck feels great though. Go figure.

Did early vintage series Martin HD28V have red spruce top like the early HD28LSV?......how close could that be in treble to the Authentic used if the V had red spruce I wonder. The Authentic, to my ears, highlites individual strings so well while strumming. Where my 2000 sitka top LSV has a similar warm tone to the V used in comparison.

Nope. Sitka. The GE and Marquis and LSV all came our around the same time and all had red spruce. The GE/MQ have more correct bracing, the LSV still has the 1.5" of straight bracing.

Except Martin changed the back radius on the Marquis. I had one for a few years, but eventually sent it out into the world, in search of the tone Martin promised with the Marquis. Smoke and mirrors that I don’t appreciate.

You do some really nice reviews. What are your thoughts on the new reimagined D28?

I have not played one. I have to figure out if you're talking about the forward X non-scalloped version or the forward X scalloped version. :) On the latter, did they fully scallop like a GE/MQ or does it have HD style scalloping?
@jarenwaldner3224

@@Bryankimsey I was thinking the standard forward shifted non-scalloped version. Are you referring to the modern deluxe when you say the scalloped version?

I can't keep up with the marketing. I was under the impression that the Reimagined got scalloped braces just a few years ago. xxxxxxx ... D-28 forward non-scalloped bracing, 1 3/4” MLO HP neck, open tuners, more vintage-esque appointments (mid-2017) xxxxxxx ... Standard Series “Reimagined”, forward scalloped bracing on most D’s, 1 3/4” MLO HP neck, open tuners, more vintage-esque appointments (2018) umgf.com/martin-serial-numbers-and-chronological-list-of-ma-t5312.html#p1921241

The HD28V sounds warmest, less articulate, maybe most bass..That 73 D28 sounds killer with great punch and mids.....Did you have same strings and age on each guitar? The 41 D28A is at another sound level. What year is the HD28V? I own a 2002 HD28V and it is the best sounding one I have ever played or owned (only mod is a bone nut and saddle)... Have owned several of different years 1998, 2004, 2006, 2012...

They're all PB with some age. Pretty sure the V has Elixir Nano's, I know the '73 does, and I can't remember if the '41 A has Elixir Nano or D'Addario XS. I don't have time to change strings on every guitar for the purpose of a video and then the strings have to settle in anyway. As long as they're in decent shape and the same material, I run with 'em. The V is a 2004. '73, '04, '13. 50 years old, 20 years old, 10 years old.
