i like to think about them, but ultimately i always discuss with my PSO just to make sure im getting the ball reaction i want. i typically like a 5 inch PIN-PAP and 3 1/2 Pin Buffer (VLS). i bowl 2 handed no thumb so he converts it into 2LS for me. for bigger asyms and urethane im probably going to get them drilled slightly stronger just to really get them to read early in heavy oil on the fresh

Me personally I put my own layouts on my ball and then take it to my PSO.. I personally like to know what layout is on what ball so I can have an idea what I could go to next at a tournament or what I could start with.. also I’m a huge fan of putting the MB in my thumb but only on Black Widows.. every black widow I get I always put the MB in the thumb

I just have 2 or 3 layouts I use regularly and stick with those. The coverstock dictates way more than the layout does, and I don't want to get stuck overthinking layout numbers when my physical execution and the ball cover mean way more. I have a smooth layout, and a long and snappy layout. I'll tweak them if need be, but it's rare.

You're right about not taking it to league right away. Got my Super Nova two days before release: bowled 7 games at OOB finish (2000 grit Abralon) and it was too strong for me on a house shot. Took it up to 3000 Abralon, bowled 8 more games and it's so versatile. Drilled 55 x 4.5" x 40 , low rev stroker 13-14 mph. Don't be afraid to adjust the surface or add polish over OOB.

This is my go to on fresh to medium lanes. I say this because unlike most solids that burn up on drying out lanes this ball retains energy like crazy. Another reason it's my go to is once the lanes dry out too much you can immediately tell when it looses energy. It starts planing out on the back end and stops its continuous roll. That's when I switch to a different ball.

I'm wondering if the MB in thumb would benefit me with a longer pin in the ball. I'm looking for a ball that will go pretty long on fresh and have the same reaction you got, even though your more under the ball than I am.My ball speed has dropped some due to age and the arm injury / repair. I still average in the low 200s to about 212 range, but don't have a strong A-symm ball for my leagues/ tournaments. Appreciate your opinion! Thanks, Mike R. Hey fellas, liking the content, so much so I couldn’t resist joining as a kingpin. Looking for a bit of advice as struggling to put 3 games at league together. I recently got a pin down Nova and it worked well on the Fresh until it didn’t. I think it was carry down as it stopped making it back like it did earlier in the night but I went back to it later and worked again but the damage was done with a messed up second game. So was thinking of going with a Proton or Reality Check or Super Nova (order of preference) Pin Up with the MB in the thumb. Which one do you think would work best is that situation ? Alternatively, should I give my Pin up original Rubicon with MB out to the right a try first ?
@jrproshop
Жыл бұрын
Hey Matthew! Yes that makes a lot of sense that your nova behaved like that, the oil started to disappear from the front of the lane and got dragged to the back. So yes you’ll need to go to something more dynamic off the end of the pattern. Pin rubicon could work, with box finish and if that is too weak then yea I’d suggest a mb in thumb reality check. That ball has really nice continuation. Thanks for the kind words! -Jungo
