Ok so your hair is beautiful. The cardigan is going to be a beautiful wearable staple! Excited to see how your collar turns out but mostly excited for your trip! Bookstores and yarn stores (starlight knitting society, how lovely does that sound?) and I feel like Portland would have really good healthy restaurants. We are off school next week and going to Atlanta- but mainly to see the aquarium ( Annalie loves whale sharks and we watched a tv series about the aquarium in 2022 when we had Covid 😂) and also to see their giant pandas at the zoo. She turns ten the 25 so it’s like a fun way to commemorate that. Safe travels and tell us all about it!! (Gotta watch gilded age because downton is one of my fave shows ever)

Firstly, I love Andrea Mowry patterns. But, her sleeves are always too tight if I follow the pattern. Now that I know that I mix and match pattern sizes, ie a bust size 3 stitches but use the size 4 sleeve stitch count.

100% agree. I love her patterns too, and I think lately she’s been doing looser sleeves. I bet she’s gotten that feedback quite a bit. I’m not sure anyone wants tight arms!

Beautiful makes! I too am a loose knitter, I knit my DK weight socks on size 2 needles and use a rib pattern. I use a vanilla sock pattern for my stitch count. One other thing I have been doing as a loose knitter, changing yarn weights for patterns. When a pattern calls for a worsted weight yarn and size 8 needles, I know that my personal gauge is around 16 stitches per 4" and the pattern calls for 18-20 stitches, I switch to DK weight yarn instead of going down needle sizes to get gauge. This may help you to not knit such dense fabrics and put tension on your hands.
@AnotherKnittingPod

That is really a great tip. I’m going to keep it in mind. Would have done so with this cardigan, but I already had the worsted on hand. But in the future I’m going to 100% remember this!

I totally relate to your love of Downton Abbey! I was SO late to the bandwagon but I'm never getting off. I love rewatching it every year before/around Christmas. And I also enjoyed the Gilded Age, too. I liked 'The Bear', too and I would recommend it - it's been a while since I watched it. I thought the first episode wasn't really that gripping in the beginning but I feel like if someone told me that the characters are not polished, kinda awkward and they really show off the mundane emotions, I would have been more prepared to watch it because its definitely a different style.

Haha Leena! Just yesterday I downloaded Libby onto my phone, when on a 1 hour train trip going home from an event, inspired by you (I’m a bit slow off the mark haha)! And just today you mention the conversation!! I didn’t have my library card number with me so couldn’t go further, but I’m very excited to explore Libby & my library's audiobooks now. I’m about to rewatch your episode on your books for 2023 again! Thank you SO MUCH ❤ And I totally agree with you about knitting with different weight yarns, and potential stress on the hands. The Carson Demers talk I saw with him was on Fiberchats, but I think Fruity Knitting had an interview with him as well. He’s so interesting. His book’s out of print I think, or hugely expensive as a secondhand copy. Your Bubbles and brioche is beautiful, and looks so much like the early stages of the Aurora Cabin shawl, which is one of my projects at the moment! It’s so good to watch and listen to you again. Cheers, Jen xx

I love wearing my hand knit socks with leggings! Exactly for the reason you mention, they stay up and don’t slouch down. For Steven’s socks, he uses a larger needle than I would want to use with dk as I want more dense fabric for my thicker socks and I typically use a US 2 or US 3. This also helps the socks last a bit longer. If you’re venturing into Sock knitting, I recommend Summer Lee, she has many good tips for beginner and seasoned knitters. Love this episode and how you thoughtfully process your knitting.

Great advice. I am planning on dropping down in needle for sure. Summer Lee has the most adorable sock designs! As does Stone Knits, if you haven’t seen hers, they are too cute. But I find that I knit colorwork even more loosely than I knit normally!

Summer Lee knit co has a new podcast the last day or two and she has a new DK pattern looks easy and she is offering I think 15% off which is only $5 anyway. I learned from Earthtonesgirl here on youtube. Like 4 yrs ago she did a step-by-step step shorty socks on 3 I think different needles. So you pick what kind of needle you like to knit. I did magic loop and she took me thru a slow and perfect tutorial like she is holding your hand. Good luck!

Your socks are pretty. You could use that stretchy elastic cord for bracelet and bead making to help keep the cuffs to stay put. I have used it for a loose arm of a sweater and it worked well. Just thread it through a needle and go around the cuff and make it as tight as you want it.

I’m cabling as I watch your video. 😂😂 I’m working on the Clearview cardigan by Sascha Knits. I feel like this is more intense than the Folklore cardigan I made for my daughter last fall. I haven’t knit anything that has the same cable motif over and over so I don’t know how I would feel about it. But I am interested in knitting Sari Nordlund’s Colette sweater which does have a repetitive cable but it looks like there would be a lot of knitting in between each cable row.

For your sock cuff, weaving some elastic through it works wonders. I've done that to bring in the cuff just a bit and you can't tell it's there in look or feel. My LYS actually showed me how to do it for free with elastic they had on hand! Also, I've done the DRK everyday sock with DK weight yarn and just used another DK sock pattern cast on number. Worked great and the ribbing would totally help you cinch the sock in! Andrea has her Bear Paw sock pattern which is essential her everyday sock in DK weight yarn.

I wanted to share that I do slip stitch wyif in a sort of ‘Norwegian’ way… leave working yarn in back, put your right needle going behind that working yarn and poke into the next stitch purlwise, pop it off the needle behind the working yarn and continue on with your right needle as needed (like move it to the front again to knit next stitch). Also I am now on my second super cabled sweater, both have had a lot of variety of cable types and that is super engaging, I imagine it’s less aggravating than the same thing alllllllll over. It’s very satisfying as you form each section of cable shapes, ‘one more row …one more twist cycle plz’. And finally I think you always look lovely, just as much as Sari!

@@AnotherKnittingPod I made the Kodikas sweater which is in Laine Magazine 13 and now I'm making Clearview by Sascha Knits! Love both designs very much... the Kodikas I'm going to make a second time as it was originally intended for my husband but it didn't fit the way I wanted for him (I made too many odd mods and used alpaca but it looks good on me) so I bought the spec yarn of Retrosaria Brusca to hopefully have it come out how it's supposed to. So definitely the cables weren't so daunting that I wouldn't go through it all over again!
