The speedbag has many applications for combat sports training, some general, some esoteric. Many of the basic speedbag patterns represent handfighting movements. Handfighting refers to any combat movement in the standup portion of a fight where your hands manipulate the hands of your opponent. You will see it in all combat sports to some degree, both striking and grappling. The speedbag allows you to get massive numbers of technique repetitions without a partner while still having a certain level of tactile feedback.
In this sequence, I show you a set up for an uppercut followed by a hook. While the Handfighting is important, the footwork is just as important.
