Amazing, isn't it? Crime drives away literal grocery stores, which you NEED to get your FOOD so you DON'T STARVE, and the people complain, and complain, and complain, "Why did the store close, we NEED it, what will we do without it?!? How can the store owners be so cruel and callous, to ABANDON us like this?!?" All while doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to fix the underlying criminal theft problem that CAUSED the store to close in the first place! It's almost like people seriously expect the store to stay open while people steal from it, essentially giving everything away for free, because, quote: "The people need it."

What are those people supposed to do about it though? They can verbally condemn it all they want, it isn't going to result in the thieves going to jail or learning from their mistakes. (Answer: backroom handies with his coalition, his only majority was his first try and many realized he's no good so now he only gets in with a minority). Sometimes your community suffers for the decisions another community makes. That doesn't mean they are to blame for the problem or did nothing to stop the problem. @@teastrainer3604 Whether you BELIEVE it or not is irrelevant to the facts of it actually happening. Many locations/big cities changed their laws to allow shoplifters to get away without charges up to $1000. So what do criminals do? They steal a whole bunch of shit UNDER $1000 because they KNOW they can get away with it without consequences. The stores ALLOWED them to steal and actually fired any employees that got involved with shoplifters. Repeat this enough times and the stores lose enough money to where it is no longer profitable for them to stay open, so they leave the area. This leaves a.smaller number of available stores for THIEVING CRIMINALS to steal from, and it is no longer a large corporation that can absorb some loss like a Walmart, but only the local mom & pop shops are left. Local people who either started a small business, or perhaps inherited it from their family, cannot afford to STAY in business if they keep losing inventory to theft. How many businesses were shut down permanently AFTER the Summer of Love riots because they were picked clean and destroyed because insurance didn't cover everything??? It was ALLOWED TO HAPPEN BY THE PEOPLE AND THE POLICE. It was unacceptable then, and it's unacceptable now. But you have to take into account that the people vote for DAs....they voted for a soft-on-crime woke DAs that have "sympathy" for someone stealing a pair of Nikes or a Gucci bag so they can "feed their kid" with it. 🙄 If they don't get arrested and prosecuted, then the official arrest statistics go down and it makes the mayor look good, even when the crime is actually spiking. This is exactly how you can hear of 25 people getting shot in Chicago over the weekend, but the mayor will smile and say that crime is down. 1980. Working my way through college, I spent 2 summers cleaning grocery store A/C units. Cleaning cut electrical costs in half. Every day i would buy a gallon of Leamon aid drink for lunch. I noticed that the cost varied by 75% depending on which store I was in. I asked a manager why? I got my first exposure to this issue then. He told me that all of the prices were higher due to shrinkage. I asked him what that was, where he explained that shrinkage was all of the product stollen by employees or customers. (a little was from accidental damage) To be fair to the chains customers, prices were adjusted based upon the shrinkage rate for that individual store. A store with 15% shrinkage had higher prices than a store which had a 5% rate. the store with the 75% higher price for the drink, the one I was in that day, was in North St. Louis.
