I did not buy it as a set, I bought stuff from several Chinese stores (many on Ebay) spread over several years. One good online store I use often is Yunnan Sourcing Pu-Erh Tea Shop

that is the coolest thing I ever seen man. In the book "The Good Earth" I remeber the part about how his big reward is a cup of hot water in the morning with maybe a few tea leaves in it on special occasions, and he sponges himself off with hot water. sad and beautiful.

@onixxx1984 You are right, the porcelain lining in yixing cups will get a maze of fine cracks over time. But in a way I like that; to me it is part of the history of a cup. And the white lining is nice to judge the colour of the tea. Besides, they are rather cheap, keeping a few new ones at hand for guests is no problem. But I am keeping my eyes open for some nice porcelain cups as well.

I have those cups that have a porcelain lining on the inside, and over time it breaks, I had a whole set, gaiwan, pitcher and sniffing cups, all of them broke on the inside, from the heat. Now I only use jingdezhen porcelain, it seems to be the most durable.

I like your technique, although I don't understand the thing with using two cups and flipping them. At my local tea house, we're only given one cup each. What's the purpose for that?
@JanKustersSittard
9 жыл бұрын
Nathaniel Smith The small high cup is just for sniffing the aroma of the tea, and the low wide cup is for drinking the tea. As far as I know, this two cup set is something from Taiwan, and perhaps a later addition to the ceremony (I am not sure). On main land China it gets used, but I think just one cup is the more traditional way. When using a Gaiwan (a slightly bigger cup with a saucer and lid), the lid is used for sniffing the aroma, and I have also seen people sniffing the lid of the teapot.

I go for a more casual approach when drinking my pu-erh ;) the ceremony is fascinating though. One thing I noticed is that you may want to place your cups close together and pour in one continuous stream - back and forth several times so each cup is equal strength and your last cup doesn't end up stronger that your first. Great vid!
@josephsherby

Sin City Metal Vids This is a little late, but by pouring from the teapot into the pitcher, he ensures equal strength tea in all cups, as it is removed from the leaves.

I do not like those ceramic lined with porcelain cups, I use rather just porcelain, that is more traditional, those tend to develop a lot of hairline cracks after a lot of use, because ceramic and porcelain react and expand diffrently.
