This has to be one of the Greatest records ever made. Gene McDaniel's was never given the recognition he so thoroughly deserved, a voice that should be appreciated generation after generation. He made some wonderful recordings during his life, and I was one of the fortunate one's to hear them.

Gene McDaniels may have had one of the best male voices of the 1960s. In every sense his was a "natural" talent. In this signature song McDaniels displays a power and range that he sustained for decades. Vale Gene.

What a wonderful voice this man has, it is exceptional. Until I saw him on you tube I had not known of him. In 1962 I was 13 and heard most of his records covered by other singers. What a shame he was not known in England, to me at least ! I wonder if the different social times back then had some bearing on his marketing by the record companies.

This guy should've been huge -- great voice and presence. This has to be one of the best versions of "Another Tear Falls," -- I found the original on the flipside of I think the 45 rpm -- "Chip Chip." He recorded heavily for Liberty Records. Brief stays at major labels that did little for him. Where was Motown? They should've picked up on this voice. Right up there with Levi Stubbs of the Four Tops. Powerful, sincere & just amazing. He did produce many major artists throughout his career and an incredible album for Atlantic that is nothing like this song.

Glad to hear that as I already like a lot of Gene's songs and this is an exceptional one. Listening to this you can't really doubt that Gene had an influence on Scott Walker that lasted longer than the covering of this tune. Nice post, thank you!

Probably one of the most under-rated recordings ever. It comes from the 1962 film It’s Trad Dad (renamed Ring-a-Ding Rhythm in the USA). Not a particularly great movie but contained some cracking songs by Del Shannon, John Leyton etc and featured Helen Shapiro and Craig Douglas who are in the Clip at the beginning. Hard to get hold of now but we’ll worth the effort.

Gene's version of Another Tear is in my collection of great emotive ballads of the 1960s. Another Great 60's ballad is Lenny Welch's "Since I Fell For You, " both these gentleman's songs never fail to bring tears to my eyes. If you've never heard Lenny Welch's early versions of SIFFY, for your own sake please give it too, a listen. I don't think you'll regret it. Thank you, Gene, RIP.

to traditional sounding in an era of folk and soul singers most similar singers (Classically Train'd with a hint of gospel) I can think of are the same, Roy Hamilton, Chuck Jackson if he was around in the late 40s early 50s they'd be as well known as Nat King Cole or Billy Eckstine.
