Great video! I found the negative debt discussion interesting since In the middle of June, I changed up my approach in my Roth IRA to focus on stocks that have little or no debt. It’s not a hard rule but it’s a starting point for evaluating a company. I also have some ETFs and do some basic options to boost it along.

Definitely make the "best picks for" videos. Things change, and most people know it. Just cool to see if you end up being correct or end up wrong. No issue either way, just some good fun and can do another video looking back as to why you ended up right or wrong.

Hey, Matt! Big fan of your channel, IMHO, the best finance channel on youtube. Question for the next QA video. Does your significant other participate in investment decisions? Do you discuss your ideas, investment strategy regularly?

Thank you very much, I appreciate it. To answer your question here - we absolutely talk about money decisions in general every time, but for investing in particular she leaves it up to me and doesn't get too involved in it. We do talk about things from time to time that we're invested in, but not frequently in detail no.

The new CEO of SBUX cannot bring back the millions of customers lost in regions such as the M.E., North Africa, and countries like Malaysia, and Indonesia due to geopolitics. Meanwhile, Lucky Coffee is snatching away more Chinese customers by the day, and in the West? Well, no one’s exactly clamoring for their overpriced, water-flavored coffee. Starbucks is a sinking ship, and I’m absolutely thrilled to watch it go under.

agree, there is no guarantee that Brian will turn things around, at least in the first couple of years. Pat Gelsinger is an excellent CEO from VMware, but 4 years in, he hasn't turned Intel around. Of course, a tech company is much harder to turn around than a coffee shop.

When you invest in a dividend stock in hope to see its dividend to grow for possibly 20-30 years and continue in your retirement. How much trust do you have for your stock scenario to play out? Our world is ever changing, companies come and go. This is a problem that does not exist for a dividend ETF where the management replace poor performers with good ones. Your great appearance with Ari Gutman raised this question in my mind.
@mattderron
Ай бұрын
Agreed, this is the challenge with picking individual stocks. The likelihood that a great company now is still great in 30 years is...I don't know. In the past how I've answered this is that I don't rely on trust, that's why I'm monitoring my stocks every quarter and I keep my active portfolio small (10 holdings currently) because that's enough for me to be able to understand well. I feel like if I get a portfolio of 20, 30, 40 stocks...I might as well just buy an ETF at that point. But that's just my view, everyone does it differently. If it's something you're worried about, I would consider just using ETFs for most of what you're doing, but combine it with a few individual companies that you really like and want to keep up with. That way you get the benefit of most of your portfolio being "handled for you" but you still get to pick stocks without having to worry about your whole portfolio being dependent on what you're doing. I've been saying for a while...you should only pick stocks if you want to do the research and all that, otherwise ETFs work great. Nothing wrong with combining the two.
