When I planned what still and brew kettle I wanted, with what I want to be able to make with it, I went for a stainless steel one, with a thick base to allow for flame heating either by wood or gas as well as electric. I have also got extra gaskets as it's a tri-clove setup. I try to always cover as many possibilities as I can, including spares or extras 'just in case'. Using a dough paste for seals / gaskets was something considered as well. Not to forget learning about malting, and yeast propagation. High proof alcohol has a great many uses, not just drinking, so this led into 'hobo stoves' where foreshots and heads can be utilised. As a side note, have you tried stave aging a distillation using the junipers aromatic heartwood, appropriately aged? I have no idea if it is safe or not, or even what the result would be.

As an offgrid distiller, I'd be screwed if i lost access to propane. I need to learn to operate over wood fire.

In a off grid situation couldn’t you bury a worm in the ground for condenser? Of course the out spout would be at a lower elevation or in a hole. With the earth temperature I would think it would work but not sure for how long.

I would love to know more about distilling malted acorns, AKA Acorn Brandy or Acorn Whiskey. I have teased about it in the past with the hope you would speak on it or at least give us something about fermenting nuts and seeds.
