Hey Alexa I work in an independent small yarn store and I'd say that would be your best bet for fixing your sweater. We often have people bring in sweaters with hole for us to mend as mending a knitted object is different than a tailor like you said. I'd google to see if there's any small yarn shops in your area and call to ask them if they have services. And if not, a lot of small yarn shops are super community connected (the amount of farms, hand dyers, etc. I now know) and could probably help refer you to someone.

I asked my dentist if she could recommend a surgeon and she found an incredible woman who owns a clinic for people that are anxious about these sorts of things. Small details like keeping the instruments out of sight, giving anesthesia plenty of time to work, covering my eyes with a blanket really helped me. She also talked me through it by telling me what she was working on (and she asked in advance if I wanted to know or not). In the end, it was not a negative experience like I expected. Just wanted to send some encouragement - no horror stories here! It took a few weeks to heal fully so I recommend January when you’re less busy (and you don’t have to worry about eating soft foods during the holidays) and just take all work off the table since your job is so much talking! Give yourself the time and space and grace. It’s not so much painful but just mentally a little challenging not being able to work as much. And the fact that you have to be on soft foods and that’s boring lol. I was petrified for this surgery but once you’ve done it, you’re done for life so hopefully that’s a little encouraging at all 💖

As for hobbies that get you outside, I can really recommend people watching! You can take a walk, or sit in a café or on a park bench, depending on weather and your personal energy level, and just watch the people around you interact with each other. You can really do a lot with this, you could just watch and try to be aware of your surroundings in the moment, or you could try and come up with background stories for the different characters crossing your path! You could even start writing those stories down and create your own little fantasy world. It's a great mindfulness practice! And NO, you don’t have to stare at people, just a short glance or an attentive ear is all you need! You can do this anywhere anytime, as long as there's another living soul around (yes, you can absolutely do this with animals, too!)

Just check to see if you can pick up your pain meds right before the procedure, because the worst part for me was the drive from the dentist to the pharmacy to get pain pills in me. I couldn’t pop it in fast enough. And the sore part isn’t really the gums, it’s the roof of the mouth where they had to harvest the graft from. I can totally identify with how your brain works!! As a fellow anxiety sufferer, my brain has become very skilled at explaining how literally everything that goes wrong is my fault. It's something I'm working on in therapy, too. Hopefully we can learn to be more gentle with ourselves 💕

I have had gum grafting twice (once on each side of my mouth). It’s not bad at all. First few days after are painful but then it heals quickly. Just follow food recommendations closely to avoid irritating the area. The worst part for me was the first surgery because I was so tense

I feel for you with the monthly migraines. I had them too for at least 3 days a month for about 20 years. What helped was a daily prescription NSAID given to me by a rheumatologist. Cut the pain down by about half. I hope you find something that works for you. Nobody should have to live with that much debilitating pain.

Smart idea to do the gum graft during a slow month! My doctor vastly underestimated the amount of time it would take for me to heal and it ended up taking six weeks before I was able to eat solid foods again. I was also not mentally prepared for the fact that my body might reject my own tissue since they made it seem very rare, but that’s exactly what happened. :/ as counterintuitive as it seems, I will likely have to use donor tissue next time rather than taking the tissue from the roof of my mouth since that didn’t work for me. :/

What about a thrift mystery box white elephant?! So it’s a gamble either way and it takes away from the potential guilt because whoever is participating is willingly playing. I’m not sure how the dynamics would work but it could be fun.

It's so nice to hear you talking about your emetofobia. It's something only my closest friends know about me but takes up such a big part in my life. Last week I was able to eat normally outside of the house while having a cold and that was a big achievement for me (eating outside of the house always triggers me and being ill makes it even worse)! I also don't drink alcohol hahah! I have very bad intruisive thoughts about the phobia. This probably is the first time ever I heard someone with a similar experience so thanks for being open about it. Whenever I hear someone else say they have the phobia it's not even close to what I have 😅

Eating outside of the house is one of my triggers as well so big claps you were able to do it!!!! ❤️ I didn’t even know it had a phobia name until a couple years ago even though I’ve been dealing with it since I was 13 and always just thought I was “weird” mainly because the way I would react to things related to the phobia would be so extreme to other people that they’d just make fun of me so I totally feel you!

So good you have boundaries for your personal life 💕 this is your job, you don’t go with your husband to his job either 😉

You don’t have to be nervous about rumors or addressing them. Simply saying they are not true is fine and if it’s not ”good enough” for some, it’s their problem.
