Fellow black booktubers, who are friends, have an insane dynamic, and great humor, and read what I like, yes yes yes. I found your channel at 2am this morning through the nyt greatest book video and spent nearly an hour watching some more and really just enjoyed your vibe together overall. I'm very eager to keep watching you guys, and also, Jon's my namesake so double pleased.

Crooked Kingdom made it onto my list of best sequels as well (I couldn’t pick just one book haha)! I love to hear that Emily Henry is Jon’s favorite new author and gives him hope for romance as a whole. This has probably been recommended already but definitely add Seven Days in June to that romance list if you haven’t read it already!! Also I like that Colleen Hoover was both Sierra’s best sequel and biggest disappointment 😂 Oh and y’all will be happy to know that I read Piranesi last month and absolutely loved it!! A new favorite for sure 😍

You are not wrong about Minor Detail. That book devastated me and I took a short break between the first section and second section. Definitely a book that made me cry. Editing to say and it was well written and almost as beautiful as it was devastating with symbolism and other details I'd normally want to reread to ponder but just couldn't.

You know the other week you were taking about Jon and voices, when you were talking about the Clare Chambers Jon, “aunt” sounded very British 😉 and I loved the reaction to “only one Rooney” 😂 I know a lot of people read and loved Safiya Sinclair’s memoir How to Say Babylon which was shortlisted for the Women’s prize for non fiction and I think part of that is because of her poetic language. I’m having a year of Brontë so will be rereading Tenant in November and hoping I liked it more than the first time 😬😉I don’t think I could decide on best book but I am certain of most unhinged, Lojman by Ebru Ojen, it’s also a really great read and a great commentary on life in Turkey for Kurdish people, but not one to go into without checking content warnings.

Just checking in - I've been out of action for 3 weeks now with pneumonia!! So I haven't filmed in an age but hoping to come back ASAP and to do this tag as I love it! I was so happy to see the book thief and in memoriam mentioned 👏🏻 I may have said this already, but if you want another amazing war book, I'd recommend Birdsong by Sebastian Faulkes. Sorry if I'm repeating myself! I am so happy that Jon was discovered romance, it's such a good genre and also completely different to what I'd expected. I really want to read The Tenant Of Wildfell Hall soon too. I didn't know Sally Rooney had a new release - thank you! Adding to my wishlist 😊 Last thing - Sierra I absolutely love your t-shirt!

Best book/biggest surprise/favorite new author/book that made me cry & happy: When I sing, Mountains Dance (Irene Solà), this had almost everything I love in a book: witches, nature, ghosts, poetry, multiple POV, drama... LOVED it. TBR by the end of the year: I want to read Trust (Hernán Díaz) before the HBO adaptation, and from your recommendations I'm most curious about Becky Chambers and I want to start with the monk & robot series ^^

Hi!! Yeah today was a pretty good day and I did do well staying hydrated tysm 💛 A couple of favorites of the year: Family Meal by Bryan Washington and Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer. I don’t think I’ve read any sequels. Recent releases I still want to get to is also Wandering Stars ! And Martyr! Upcoming releases: DEFINITELY Intermezzo (what a title :)) I am not the best at keeping tabs on new releases. I’m excited for a special illustrated edition of The Poppy War, which I have pre-ordered. Biggest disappointment: The Vulnerables by Sigrid Nunez. I LOVED The Friend by her, but this newest one was too stream of consciousness for me. I’m realizing that this narrative style only hits for me if we have a clear sense of the narrator as a character and their physical circumstances and then we are deep in their thoughts. But if it just feels like bopping around through various thoughts I feel disoriented. I want a narrative 🥺 Biggest surprise: Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston. Obviously this is a classic and has all the accolades, so I wasn’t surprised it was good. But I had been intimidated by it, yet found it so accessible and enthralling !! Favorite New Author (I guess I am interpreting this as a new author I definitely want to read more of): Meg Howrey (who wrote They’re Going to Love You !!) They’re Going To Love You made me cry. And Enter Ghost by Isabella Hammad got me right at the end 🥺 Also Bryan Washington always makes me so attached to his characters and then hurts me lmao, so Family Meal as well. Book that made me happy: Good Material by Dolly Alderton! Very compelling and well-humored and nice musings about friendship in adulthood. Beautiful Cover: Tomorrow x 3 Unhinged book: Disorientation by Elaine Hsieh Chou Non-negotiables to read by the end of the year: Tomorrow x 3 and Six of Crows. ❤ (thx for reading any / all of this) !! Fun to participate 🥹

Favorite books of the year so far (by genre): 'The Spear Cuts Through Water' by Simon Jimenez (fantasy), 'Small Mercies' by Dennis Lehane (historical mystery/thriller), 'The Devil in the White City' by Erik Larson (non-fiction), 'Just for the Summer' by Abby Jimenez (romance). And I'm listening to 'Project Hail Mary' right now which I predict might become my favorite sci-fi of the year (in great part because of Ray Porter's wonderful audio narration).

Delightful as always! The new releases I'm looking forward to are Vigdis Hjorth's If Only and Scaffolding by Lauren Elkin. My biggest disappointment was Authority, book 2 of Jeff Vandermeer's Southern Reach Trilogy. Favourite new author is José Saramago for his novel Death with Interruptions. I think both of you would enjoy it as well. Btw what did you all think of the NYT 100 best books of the 21st century? Tomorrow×3 landed on the list.
