Hi Melissa, really enjoy your content! Your voice is so soothing lol I’m an RN too and props to you for doing something for work that’s not bedside! More props for doing something not in medical lol I left bedside a year ago and no regrets. I work for an insurance company now. Bedside nursing just continues to decline and cause so much burn out. Hospitals are ruining what so many people become nurses for. I was a night shift NICU nurse for 7 years until I finally just decided I needed to leave for my mental health. Side note: I’m super shy too so I can relate. Very proud of you for stepping out of your comfort zone and doing something you’re obviously very good at! Definitely motivational for us shy/introverted people 🙌🏽

It can't explain how it made me feel but I just couldn't do it anymore. I'm so much happier!

I enjoyed this video a lot. In my opinion it must take a lot of confidence and even courage to let viewers into your life as you did here. I’ve watched a lot of your videos and have always highly respected your plant knowledge plus your personality and now I respect even more about you. As to people who express dislike toward you, I would suggest to them that they take a long hard look in the mirror. If I pondered for a week I couldn’t come up with anything negative to say about you or what you do for your viewers. Thanks for that and please continue to teach us as our favorite Plantologist Extraordinaire.

I really enjoyed getting to know a lil more about you. Like I've commented before, you've become my favorite. We have so much in common, it's crazy. I agree with your comment about kids. I too have had infertility issues, but realized that I don't really want kids. So I never tried to get any treatments to increase my chances. I'm 45 now, and I honestly feel like I am so happy I didn't have them!! I don't regret it at all. My plants and animals bring me so much joy and I'm also free to really know myself and enjoy my life the way I want to. Being a plant mom and having fur babies is enough for me!! Proud to be kid- free!! Lol!!

Hello Melissa, my Calathea Makoyana sits on a west-facing window, and it has not experienced any crispy leaves, which I am glad and blessed that it reminds me to pray too :). It was still in its original pot for 2 months before I repotted it a week ago. It's still shooting new leaves every week, which is surprising since Winter is almost here. Her unique potting mix is miracle grow for indoor plants, about 60 per cent of it; the rest is 30% perlite, and the rest is Leca. And I use a water meter too. I only water it on the "parts" that read dry, and I don't touch plants if they still read "moist". Checking the soil every 5 days to a week at most.

I think the clear poles the thickly poles are so much easier to maintain. And the wire ones is expensive to buy all of that stuff I still have it all I made a few poles but I prefer the plastic ones because there's so much easier to maintain the moss stays moist for so much longer for me. That might be because I live upstairs on the third floor and it's hotter and drier but for me the plastic pole wins!

Regarding the moss poles, I’ve recently seen some people do half wire/ half plastic. You put the plastic on the back, the wire on the front and zip ties on the sides, So you get the best of both worlds. I’m considering trying it because I’ve seen some done so thin that It almost looks like a plank rather than a round pole!
@plantsbymelissa
Жыл бұрын
I have seen that but I think adding the plastic would take twice as long and make me dread them even more lol. It seems like a lot of work to build one pole 🙈
@jpgypsyxo
Жыл бұрын
I guess if you have the patience to do it, it works. And the back doesn’t have the wire. Just the front: it’s like taking two pieces (one plastic, one wire) of the same size and connect them on the sides with zip ties. They call it a D shaped pole. I’ve also seen people do a “lazy pole” where it’s just the backing with plastic strips to hold the nodes and moss. I wish KZitem allowed photos into a post so I could just show you.

Thanks for answering so many of our questions Melissa. You're a trooper!! I found that we have a very similar process when it comes to rainwater. I have a big drum (prob holds about 44 litres of water) and I draw it out of there, filter it using drip coffee filters and funnel the cleaner water into a jerry can and other large containers. It has certainly kept my calatheas looking happy ( higher humidity too of course). I related so much when you spoke about stress at work and liking the quiet - I believe it's because of our jobs that we now crave the quiet! I was sharing a lot of your answers with my hubby and daughter which means that you had me so engaged...really enjoyed the sharing. I don't use it to water in my soil but just to treat root rot. You're killing all the beneficial microbes by watering with it. Fungus gnats will show up no matter what if you're using soil but it's more like how can you control them so they're not multiplying and becoming a problem. I'm using beneficial nematodes right now and I've had great success with BTI (mosquito dunks) to control them with consistent use ☺️
@plantsbymelissa

new soil can also contain gnat larvae so once you water it they'll hatch!
