FYI: You can set your Nreal Air display to be a mirror for your main display. Go to system preferences > displays > nreal air > use as: "Mirror for Built-In Display" . This way you can set your laptop's display to minimum brightness, but you don't need to drag windows between the macbook and the virtual display.

this video is so informative, at last something else than the countless unboxing videos, thanks! I was particularly curious about the perceived size of the screen vs a laptop and from what I understand the glasses will mimic a 19" monitor. @jackofmanytrades
2 жыл бұрын
The tricky thing with AR is that it’s not physically fixed in place. So at different distances the same size looks very different. I’d say that it being 130” at 3m is reasonable. (That’s about 9 ft) it looks about 70-80” at 2 m or so and it looks about 19” at 1ft. So it’s definitely all a matter of perspective

1. I haven’t had any overheating on my devices. But I don’t use the nebula app (except on the Mac). That being said, you will shouldn’t have trouble mirroring. 2. How do the Nreals perform on windows gaming laptops for FPS games like Apex Legends? I couldn't find specs except on another review video, they mentioned it has about 90 frames per second. Is that true and is there latency between mouse movement and the display? In other words, is it good enough for fast paced FPS games like Apex Legends? I have a 55" TV and playing Apex on it was unusable because of latency. The display was noticeably slower than my actual hand movement so I got a gaming monitor with 1ms latency and it's much better. Wondering what I should expect with the Nreal Airs.

@Mr2 Reviews, good question! I would not really recommend using these for FPS gaming. These aren’t really competitive tools. I don’t believe they have 90Hz refresh rate. But maybe. @@jackofmanytrades Ok..I thought the adapter might provide some hope to be able to export view to an external monitor. You know how DJI Goggles have HDMI (out/in? connectivity) and that allows you to have someone else view your flight with a second pair of goggles and/or it allows you to output to a monitor (as if you had goggles on), I thought the HDMI adapter you referenced may be able to do something like that. IMO these vendors producing AR glasses should provide some means to show what users will see in the glasses without having to purchase them. If these mfgs had a way to allow reviewers, like yourself, to easily share what they are actually seeing while wearing the glasses I think the reviews would be much more impactful and compelling. Not sure what they would have to do to allow that but if they could do it could make a big diff in their sales..Even if they produce some special demo only glasses for reviewers that allows them to output the image. I've seen other reviewers just describe their visual experience while wearing the glasses (e.g., "It's amazing...." and while that's helpful...that's not enough for many people to drop $400 on a product like this especially in the age where these manufacturers will give the reviewers incentives to say what they want them to say. Anyway to your credit you did a pretty good job of capturing what you might see while wearing the glasses but even with your efforts it's not going to be same as what it would be if you are wearing the glasses (or had a way to output the image).

It’s the same size regardless of the device you use. The thing to keep in mind is that the size of the physical display is different. The iPad is 12.9” the Razer blade is 15.6”. You can adjust the display resolution. I don’t think you can make it wider though. If you’re watching a widescreen movie though, since the screens are OLED, it appears like the screen became wide. But the screen is always the same size. That being said, I think the Nebula app will bring some functionality like that. But on the computer, it’s in beta and I’ve heard It’s pretty bad. Hi David, Glad you found the video helpful! So these glasses may be used to play any game as a large virtual monitor. Though with an Apple Silicon-equipped Mac, you can have 3 monitors with head tracking, the game will not be able to register the input from the glasses. So these won’t function as a VR alternative. (BTW, even if you could do it, the FOV is going to be pretty small. There will also be light leaking in from all angles).

Thanks for this honest review!! I saw this on ijustines channel and wanted to do more research. Especially since she was sponsored and sent them. From what it looked like on her channel it didn’t look like you could see the screen from the outside. So i went to a guy named flossy carters channel someone mentioned him in her comments section. When he was in Dunkin’ it looked like you could see the screens and I was like oh.. well that’s kinda dumb if the can see them. To me that kinda defeats the purpose of these being discreet. I feel like these are almost there it seems so close to something I’d buy. It’s just for $400 I think I’ll hold out till it’s perfected a bit more. If they were able to put almost like a car tint like the illegally dark kind on the lenses so you can still see out but nothing could be seen from the outside that’d be pretty cool and really what I expected. At this point I’m just nitpicking I guess but idk these are the things I didn’t see people have a problem with and maybe it’s just me but an example the covers in my opinion look kinda cheesy because they’r matte. If they’d made them still completely black out but look like sunglasses that shine you get a sunglasses but really you can’t see through them cause the inside is blacked out they’d be way more illicit. Just little details I feel would make these so cool. To me making AR sunglasses you should make them so people don’t know that you’re using AR glasses right? One other thing that in my opinion is why I don’t think I’d personally get them yet is the chord it’s kind of a deal breaker for me it’s so easy to connect to Bluetooth why wouldn’t they’ve made them Bluetooth (is there a way to connect two Bluetooth items at once?) I’m sorry I’m not tech savvy I would get tangled in that cord but also who wants to wear sunglasses with a cord hanging from them lol. I know nothing about tech so I could say if the technology is there but from a look wise standpoint these come so close for me as a normal person who knows next to nothing about tech. Can you watch 3D movies on Nreal glasses? I have HDMI android player that can output in 1080p 3D format.

No. The displays aren’t independent

Thats not what I see, on both ipad Pro and PC it is a massive fixed screen which stays fixed in front of you. The screen couldn't be any bigger. On windows you can set the screen resolution for the nreal display, I've not tested it but moving it off the recommended setting might make the screen look smaller. Anyone used the nreal converter with Windows? It would be nice if that allowed you to move screens around like you can on android.

No problem. I agree with Damian, the screen is just about as big as it can be for the distance from your face. Size is always a matter of perspective though. I was giving practical examples as opposed to the impractical example that they give in their website. You will not be disappointed by the size of the screen. Especially since it’s portable and can rest in your head.

To close the lid on my mac without turning it off i use a free app called Amphetamine. My question is if i plug the Nreal Glasses into my Mac or Windows i should see my screen but if i have many virtual desktops have you been able to see all at once or just one at a time? assume one at a time but thought no harm in asking :)

Think im answering my own question and i will need Nreal to make a Nebula app for Windows and Apple before I have a chance of seeing multiple desktops :( So will have to cope with the phone version :)

Looks like Nebula is coming to Apple but nothing mentioned for windows which is a shame as I have both systems but get more work done on a Windows :(

Yeah, as of right now, the Mac version is in beta. But I heard it’s a terrible experience and is not ready for full release. I suspect they’ll make a windows port eventually though. Same for iOS.

Is there a usb c hub adaptor that allows you to charge your steam deck and use the n real glasses simultaneously?

There are usb c hubs with a power delivery usb c and then a standard usb c to connect the glasses to. I don’t have the glasses but I’m sure that would work because the steam deck has hub support

You have to be very careful. Read up on what usb c is actually sufficient for DP alt mode. Most are 3.1 Gen 2 which will only support data not display.

@@jackofmanytrades I have a jsaux docking station. Would using a usb-c to hdmi cord to the n real glasses from the jsaux docking station work?

Ordered it and tested it today. It’s safe to say it didn’t work. Well hopefully this saved someone else the trouble.
