While I've always seen these castings from anthills displayed with the mouth of the anthill as the base of the finished artwork, I've wondered how intriguing it might be to add some channel strut to the mouth before the aluminum hardens and displaying it as a suspended work, mimicking how it REALLY was...

Jeff Anderson good idea, I think I might try that to see how it turns out.

another option is to drill holes into the base so you can suspend it with a chain, rope, or wire

Definitely consider getting a barrel in which you can soak the casts in overnight before hitting it with the power washer. If you can rig up a recirculating pump like a parts washer you can reduce the power washer time to just the final detail and keep from turning part of your yard into a mud hole.

Joe Guilfoyle we have a big problem with ants here. You have to watch where your kids and grand kids play are they will have ant bites all over them. You even have to keep a close eye on you pets.

That sucks ,I saw fire ants first hand in shreveport Louisiana and I was amazed at how fast they could rebuild . And yes I was told to leave the piles alone but used a stick to push it over and man they stormed out fast and rebuilt it all by the next day . Here in upstate NY we are going to get 5-8” of snow . No regular ants for 6 months now. Thanks for the response, keep up with the art and help controlling the population.

Oh how I wish the ant beds in my yard were that shallow. A long story made short ... I had to do some digging last summer and the ant bed where I HAD to dig was right there. I bet it was 3 1/2 ft to the bottom of it.
