When you add up all the talent of the various members of Genesis it comes to an almost unbelievable amount. I doubt there will ever be another band that matches them.

so economical with his right hand and the dexterity of his left hand fingers, incredible ability to seperate his fingers by the width of a fret. I have played for 45 years and that is so hard to do. He makes it so effortless.

Wow. I realize I still can learn a lot on my 12 string playing and, above all, composing. Thank you mr Phillips, you have opened new inspirations to me.

His hands/ finger strength is amazing. His fingers are anchored to the fretboard when he's fingerpicking and needs to move only one finger up or down. That is so hard to do , at least as a fledgling guitar myself it is.

you are not wrong, i think most non-musicians tends to be impressed by fast scales and licks, but little did they know that it is much easier to practice scales and worlds more sophisicated to play harmonizations, balancing the rhythm, bassline and melodic lines, that's why Ant's hands looked so weird because of the chords he used was extremely sophisticated, adding the fact that he played it on a 12-string guitar.. what a talent

He is such an amazing player. Im coming to his music just now and it really has been a pure unadulterated joy to discover. I get chills on the few occasions like this where theres actual footage of him playing.

As with Anthony Phillips pre-Genesis band Anon (which did covers of The Beatles & Rolling Stones tracks), the group became a three-piece band by the end of 1966 (Phillips, Rutherford, Tyrrell), with its members (sans Tyrrell) merging with the members of Garden Wall to form Genesis (which was essentially The New Anon around the time it was formed). Though Chris Stewart joined the band in December 1967, since they needed a drummer at Jonathan King's suggestion.

I believe that Mr. Philips may have imparted a certain feeling, or concept into Genesis that held over long after his departure. Perhaps even the name Genesis. I'm speculating... All six of them are quite brilliant each.

It has a very full sound. I use a cutaway and does not have so much of an echo characteristic to it. I can play my 12-sttring on just about any type of song and music style. With Ant's guitar, the echo sound is best with these eclectic pieces that only he can do, and does so well. I'll take Ant over Leo Kottke anytime.
