In March 2024 John and I embarked on an 18 night expedition to the Antarctic Peninsula, Antarctic Circle and the Weddell Sea onboard the Sylvia Earle with Aurora Expeditions.
We navigated the Weddell Sea, known for it's pristine ice formations and abundant wildlife, explored the iconic peninsula, teeming with wildlife and breathtaking landscapes and crossed the Antarctic Circle, a significant geographical boundary marking the southermost point reachable by ship and while we were there, we plunged into the icy waters for a very memorable few moments.
Along the way, we observed a variety of Antarctic wildlife, including penguins, seals, whales and seabirds. We admired the stunning scenery of icebergs, glaciers and snow-capped mountains. We participated in lectures and presentations by experts to enhance our understanding of the Antarctic ecosystem and history. We explored the Antarctic shores and wildlife up close via inflatable zodiacs, took advantage of many photography opportunities and captured breathtaking images of the Antarctic wilderness. We also took part in Aurora Expeditions Citizen Science program which we highly valued.
This expedition was the ultimate Antarctic experience and the trip of a lifetime.
This video showcases a glimpse of a awe-inspiring moments experienced during the expedition. A future video will provide an in-depth exploration of the Sylvia Earle.
