I have been doing judo for a long time (5+ years), frankly speaking I suck at Judo, I didn't win that much competitions, Lately I went for wrestling because I had free time, I could do any Judo move I wanted with almost full efficiency (especially uchimata) against my opponents.. the reason is that I think wrestling guys don't really know how to respond to Judo moves, Judo moves can't be stopped by force or pushing back!

Shen Shy It comes from none of the stuff you said, and Ju does not mean what you said it means. Jū means Gentle, and Dō means way. Judo came from Jujutsu and before that, Chinese/Mongolian forms of grappling like Shuai Jiao.

Shen Shy Can you provide proof to any of your statements? Also, Judo came from Jujutsu, which was NOT a wrestling art and incorporated every kind of technique. Also, I don’t know why you’re talking about kenpo when the topic is Judo.

0:26 the kid flys head first into the floor haha is the floor even padded? it doesn't look like it.. Kid is good, he used the force of the attacker's grip, quickly gets on the inside for the flip. using the momentum to perform the move, allowing the attacker to lunge himself for the throw. When he grows up his going to be really good at Judo, that combined with wrestling is going to give him really good take down defense.

@19thaman79 What you said is not a fact, it's just conjecture. There is in fact that theory of pankration influence, but that theory doesn't take into account the historical reality of the spontaneous rise of indigenous combative forms in a majority of cultures, as well as the expatiation of fighting techniques across many centuries and from many nations, so the concept that pankration is the linear ancestor of asian martial arts is nothing but speculation.

@19thaman79 That Pankration theory is very vague and controversial, besides it can't be proved. The most acceptable theory is that both eastern and western people developed their own martial arts naturally along the time, since martial arts came from the human need to defend himself, so it's a natural "instinct". furthermore, That comparison is definitely NOT valid with the Judo/BJJ link.
@MinotaJJ
14 жыл бұрын
@19thaman79 a lot of what you've said is true, but there are some things that must be elucidated. Judo and Wrestling are two arts who developed alone independent of each other, whereas bjj and sambo are two arts directly derived from Judo. So, in other words, wrestling and judo have some similar techniques while sambo and BJJ have techinques absorbed from another art(Judo in this case).
@MinotaJJ
14 жыл бұрын
@19thaman79 Assuming that pankration theory is valid, Comparing Judo newaza with the Indian jiu-jitsu is like comparing the car with the wheel. The indian jiu-jitsu is WAY more primitive than Judo's Newaza, whereas Judo and BJJ are visible very alike. Further, Judo and BJJ parentage is historically documented.

@MrTude your son has a bright future if he is still applying his judo this well to wrestling. I hope your son achieves as much!
@DrVoltage1

@ninjaworshipper He drove the kid straight down on his forehead. You would have been banned from this tournament and possibly a few upcoming in Judo. Ippon seoi nage is a throw that elevates the opponent (not drives them directly down), and forces them to land on the flat of their back, not the face.
@flakchaqueta

This kid is very talented it takes a lot of practice to implement judo into American folk style wrestling. At my high school during the summer i was training for judo to be used in wrestling which is working very well by the way. But your son has damn near perfected it in my book.

That kid is a beast. mfxdoodist probably got raped by a judo guy in wrestling. that or it's his period. Who says you can't use Judo in wrestling? A takedown is a takedown. My go to throw (the only one I really know how to do) during wrestling was the uchi mata.
@MinotaJJ
14 жыл бұрын
@19thaman79 About that pankration influence, let's take fencing as example. Japanese and European fencing have a lot of things in common, but none of them took influence on the other. Since fencing is also a martial art, it applies perfectly to my point as well.
