Probably because Zazula rejected it. Scott Ian says they approached him with this demo but he wasn't impressed at all.So they recorded the second one to be able to get a record deal.Hence the reason why these songs were probably scrapped.Howling Furies did make it to the first album though.

@@exdeus5940 Most people don't believe him, but as a music archaeologist and archivist this demo and the first album are completely unlike any other debut thrash album pre-1985. Dave Mustaine in my informed opinion is the closest player and composer, technically and stylistically to Greg Walls. He said for a while Metallica didn't have a lead player after Dave Mustaine was sacked. Dave Mustaine also debuted his album in a style completely unlike any other thrash album released before the mid '80s. Greg mentioned he was into Ted Nugent and Moody Blues. Music like that couldn't inspire thrash metal in the way NWOBHM inspired thrash metal. It's thrash, but different to the popular NWOBHM influenced thrash of 1983 and earlier. I think he makes a pretty solid case on Anthrax's and thrash's history. The business is indeed filthy and slimey, riddled with lawyered up labels and executives.

@@SPNKr16 the quality of the riffs slowly deteriorated album after fistful. They were slowly incorporating the SOD style riffing, but a lot of the time, I never felt it complimented Joey's vocals, or Joey's vocals never complimented the crossover sound they were trying to create later on. That being said, I love the music now that Joey's back.

@@exdeus5940 Appreciate your response. Anthrax and Dave Mustaine put Alice Cooper on the map for the 80s music listening generation, before Wayne's World was even on SNL and the big screen. Fistful of Metal is truly the most underrated thrash debut of the first wave in the 80s. If Show No Mercy's drums were tracked simultaneously with the cymbals then the production of that album could be better than Fistful of Metal, but I believe Fistful of Metal sounds better than SNM and Kill 'em All. I'm specifically talking about the Megaforce USA CD (MRI CD 469). Besides the tape damage/clicks and pops the overall sound maybe even beats Killing Is My Business. Every other CD issue sounds like ass, and the LPs aren't much better. I think KEA sounds the worst of all the debut albums.

I don't mind Neil Turbin as far as the first album goes. He does have some chops and ability to hit high notes and stretch stuff out but his style is much more rooted in the traditional Heavy metal halfordish style but certainly not anywhere near halfords abilities but Turbin could hold his own but there was a limit to where he could take the band using that style. They were traveling in a heavier direction and needed someone who had the chops and could accommodate the thrash style. Joey has more to offer though he too had a limiting factor of where he could take the band. He was a bit unique among his peer thrash bands. He had the bruce Dickinson operatic capabilities and joey was more dynamic. Many of the earliest thrash bands did often have a more traditional heavy metal style vocals but as the scene expanded and bands became faster and heavier the vocals became heavier and raw with bands using more grunting harsher vocal style at times instead of the power metal style.

Honestly sounds like a stereotypical demo you'd hear from a dime a dozen 80's garage band. This isn't a knock against the band, everybody has to start from somewhere. I just get a kick out of people who love to repeat tired clichés of "the demos/first lineup/first album (ect ect) was the best." In many cases, that clearly isn't even possible. lol I have a suspicion that people who say these things don't actually believe what they're saying, they just have personal resentments against the groups they're talking about (usually for non musical reasons) and they're trying to discredit the bands legacy and or success.
